Rakitic does get some unfair criticism I believe.

Nobody ever beleived he was at Xavi level and he is not as good as he once was.

It is not his fault he played so many games and he played at Liverpool, except if he somehow pressures Valverde to start every game, which should never be possible, with a decent coach.

Just to be clear, I don't like his playing style, I believe he is in decline and his comments make him somewhat dislikeable.

But, he is not as bad or hasn't always been as bad, as some people make him out to be nowadays.

All that said, I would prefer he left. Along with Valverde if possible.

If nothing else it should be obvious to everyone ( apart from Valverde ) that Rakitic is largely ineffective - a crime for a midfielder who plays for Barcelona ... and starts every game for us

Someones intelligence can't be determined by his footballing skills. If you ask me he is one of the most intelligent players in our squad, because he made an unbelievable career despite his very limited physical capabilities. So you can describe him as a slow or technically deficient player but definitely not dumb. For example Deulofeu is dumb or Demebele might be dumb or Neymar but Raktic for sure isn't dumb.

He's not so much dumb as a coward. Plays 'safe' just to get rid off the ball, even when by doing so he's creating danger. Or maybe he just doesn't trust his ball retention skills under pressure, I don't know. Either way it's unacceptable in a Barca mid. There was a time I'd quite happily have kept him as back up, but with De Jong come in, in combination with Rakitic's sense of entitlement and Valverde's infatuation with him, there's nothing to be gained by keeping him around, and everything to lose.

Unfortunately I can't watch that video in my country. The main reason why he can't play against pressure or why he is prone to mistakes is the fact he is probably the slowest player in our squad with and without the ball. To be fair if he was dumb he wouldn't be able to play on the top level with his lack of speed for so many years.

When I heard he would sign for Barca I was 100% he would fail here but in the end he stayed here for 5 years and played majority of games during that period under 2 different managers and he was probably alongside Modric best Croatian player in Russia. I agree he needs to go but you have to admit he had a much better career at Barca than 90% of us expected.

I Agree. It is obvious to most people.
Still, many players in his position would take advantage of the circumstances (Valverde being what he is) and milk every last minute he can.
This is a negative thing, just to be clear.

prick, I have been saying "sell", not renew and raise. But the hypocrisy I see in scapegoating him vs holding Busi (who makes a good deal more of a wage BTW) and many others at least equally accountable for our debacles in the CL (and in fact only I blind person would not hold Alba the most responsible among any player in this year’s decider) is just too thick not to expose. Haters are going to hate, and objective ratings help expose it, as if objective ratings are "tinted", one can't get any more ludicrous than a Fox News Expose' on Obama.

Can't see the vid but to start "stupid" play in this match and not start with Alba's header leading to the 1st and the players turning their back on a corner for the 4th is completely disingenuous. There were lots of stupid and poor plays, Rakitic had multiple, so did many others.
