Can we just pay 150m+ for this guy and solve all our midfield problems already?

Barcaforum, as always, has me convinced the 150m+ Pogba successor and complete midfielder Sergej-Milinkovic-Savic was the solution in the summer so he must still be worth looking at.

Nah son, that fee is long gone. He is an established Serie A icon now, fee is closer to 320 mil euros; would have been a steal at 150 mil. Guess we'll have to settle with Arthur, FDJ, Alená and Puig over the next decade or so.

Well he's 192 cm so I don't see why he wouldn't be worth that fee.

What happened to him? He is bad now?
Suffered the same problem Andrea Belotti had.

Have a breakout season but only for the next season to not be anywhere as good as it. Both are good players but just not worth anywhere near the fees Lazio and Torino wanted.

Ended up being a one season wonder I guess.

Still talented no doubt but he was brought back down to earth after last season.

Too soon to tell but his career at Lazio seems to mirror that of Felipe Anderson (2014-15 season). Both had seasons where they performed better than usual at a fairly young age and both were very much hyped as a consequence. With the obligatory transfer rumors of top club x and y wanting to buy them for x and y amount of money. Now an almost 26 year old Felipe Anderson is playing for West Ham.

Not saying that the same thing will happen with Savic but I am always suspicious of Lazio players getting hyped.

"Way back" I recall the case of Zarate as well. More recently Keita Baldé. Lazio has probably not sold a genuine world class player since Nesta but everyone knew that he was the "real deal" back then.

Seems like in the last couple of seasons some Midtable/EL level Italian teams always have one or two players that explode onto the scene and have a great season leading to them having big teams come knocking in hopes they will splash the cash and rinse and repeat.

how much did they ask for him again ?
Lazio's president apparently was only willing to listen to offers over 100 Million for him. But I always thought that was a bluff to get someone to commit at least 70+ for him.

He was probably gambling on teams like PSG/Real to come in and do it but the offer never came because both teams laughed and went on their way. It reminds me when Belotti was banging them in for Tornio and there were a lot of teams willing to pay over 50 Million for him but Torino were holding out for much more.

Only for teams to back away and Belotti ended up underperforming the next season kinda like how Sergej is.

Why? They need to reinforce their defence or midfield first. They do not need him just yet. Ndombele would be a much better option.
