Messi was working hard in his style vs Liverpool. It just wasn't the style needed. When Coutinho and Suarez are not making frequent runs Messi a) failed to make frequent runs himself off the ball behind the defense and b) failed to tell Suarez and Coutinho to do their job more frequently

What is this non sense about his style not being needed when he created 3 clear cut chances with his passes alone? What, should he create 10 chances? 20,30? He is also an intelligent mover off the ball, contrary to your wrong belief, but aside from Alba's cut backs, who in this team can find him on a consistent basis if he makes a run? No one that is who. Anyway, he run into spaces 2 or 3 times but he just missed like every other player in history. The problem is that if he misses, the other dumbasses in our team can never step up in his place. Or what, you think Ronaldo has not missed crucial chances in the last years? He did but here was Bale, Modric, Marcelo or Benzema stepping up when needed.

Failed to tell them what? Do you think he controls them with a joystick? Do you actually know who Suarez and Coutinho are? Do you think Messi doesn't want players making intelligent runs? Dude, they're not kids picking up a ball for the first time and need telling what to do. They should know this but they can't execute because they are slow as shit. Suarez couldn't escape Van Dijk's pocket to save his life.

Like always, Messi is held to such a ridiculous standard that no other player in history has been held to. It's like he should be the passer and the finisher in the same damn sequence otherwise he has failed. Basically, he should be able to pass to himself. The sadder part is that Barcelona fans are the ones spouting this kind of non sense. You kind of get with RM fans or CRonaldo cheerleaders but Barca fans?

Exactly. People still think Messi doesn't make runs. He does all the time it's just he likes to get the ball to feet a lot as well and that's the way it should be. Ronaldo doesn't have as much ability on the ball as messi so he likes to make more runs and he obviously has that aerial ability so he likes to make more runs for crosses. I have seen Messi make runs from deep on countless occasions and not getting the right service and sometimes getting that service just like he did twice against eibar at the weekend

People forget those goals where he scored first time after a decent cross and a decent run.

He runs, just not his day when liverpool has simply 150% motivation and every defender worked their ass of as if its their last day.

Messi will do his first press conference since 2015 along with Pique.
He'll probably back Valverde and it'll confirm that EV will stay, win or lose the Copa.

Or maybe he will do like Mbappe and says he wants a new project here or elsewhere...
Valverde fired by the end of the confrence. Lol.

Why probably? Of course he will back EV, imagine Messi saying I want EV gone while he's sitting next to him lmao

well obviously I didnt mean he should say he wants EV out. I just hope he keeps things open and not say explicitly like 'We believe in EV to continue with us and bring us more trophies next season.'

It is odd that both Pique and Messi will do the press conference. Usually its only one player.

Sometimes the right decision is to simply just frequently make runs off the ball to attempt to recieve throughballs. Its not his style but it is a basic part of being a forward. That is what Messi failed to do.
The way Coutinho and Suarez failed to play their role properly is completely unacceptable but that is no excuse for me to exclude my particular critisism of Messi.

If all he's doing is making runs off the ball against Liverpool when would he have had the opportunity to create those 3 clear chances. Seen as our midfield was dominated mainly because Arthur didn't play and we didn't get many opportunity to play through balls it didn't really matter. Anyway messi is more than a guy who just makes runs. He is the best because he is the best all round player ever. We wouldn't be having this conversation if one of those clear chances was put away anyway

Do you actually understand that our midfield couldn't get the ball out of the defense to save their lives? And this not only happens against great teams like Liverpool. The midfield can't get the ball forward against the likes of Eibar and Alaves. When a team presses us high we usually need Messi to come in our half to release some pressure from our back line because he is the only player that can constantly keep the ball and dribble opponents.

For Messi to do runs he would have to stay closer to the oppo's box and the midfield should be bale to keep the ball for more than 3 seconds and advance the play to be in a position to make through balls for Messi's runs. Firstly, Barcelona nowadays has a hard time doing that without Messi, because most of the time our midfield consists of 3 mostly defensive players, under this genius manager. Secondly, none of the players we have can constantly pass behind the lines.

And even though he constantly dropped deep to collect a pass, he still made 2 or 3 runs in open space to recieve the ball, he just missed those chances for which you can criticize him. However, by dropping deep, he also created 3 clear cut chances, which we wouldn't have created if he only made runs.

Btw, since you are such a huge fan of Cronaldo's off the ball movement, I'll ask you one thing. How did he fare this season without geniune great playmakers and crossers like Marcelo, Kroos, Modric or Benzema creating for him? The scoring is down, the chances are less, seems to me that making runs just for the sake of it is not that productive either.

Johan Cruyff [In an interview with Lawrence Donegan of The Guardian (1 October 2005)]
"Every trainer talks about movement, about running a lot. I say don't run so much. Football is a game you play with your brain. You have to be in the right place at the right moment, not too early, not too late."

Xavi noted the same recently. Hope a fix is coming. You guys ever heard of that No Foul It's Good anecdote?
