Lenglet is such a gem defensively, but he is inferior to Samu in one aspect of the game, and that is buildup play; both in passing, reading the game and going forward. But otherwise, yeah a solid transfer.

I know Umtiti is well liked on the forum. For me Lenglet is already better than he ever was for us.

He is well liked because he was a fucking beast. Easily better than Lenglet. He was the best CB in the world for half a year and top 3 for about 2. Lenglet has to eat a little bit more before being considered in the first 3 CB in the world. Let's put the breaks on the recency bias.

I see it as you do. And no I don't think Umtiti has ever been the best CB for his team (club, France) despite being an outstanding player.
Given the knee issue, I'd like to see De Ligt in with Umtiti out covering like 2/3 of the cost. I'd move forward with these 2 and Pique bridging until the next 3rd CB comes along.

I’ve never been totally convinced by Umtiti like so many seem to be PLUS his form dropped when all the transfer speculation started..
his form dropped when he was INJURED -- period. prior to that he was arguably the best centre back in the world; he's still only 25 and is coming off an impressive showing in the world cup. it makes no sense to rush him out the door.
We cant have 4 world class defenders. 3+Todibo.
If Pique retires in 2020 that´s a different story. But he´s better than ever.
