Zinedine Zidane

Great news for La Liga and our rivalry. A Mourinho return would have been insufferable.

Zidane can only disappoint compared to his first stint as there is zero chance of him coming close to his past achievements given that RM's by far most important player in C. Ronaldo is gone, Modric will turn 34 this summer, Marcelo 31 in a few weeks time and looks done and dusted and Ramos will turn 33 this month and is already declining. Benzema will turn 32 this year, Kroos is no longer a youngster either and most likely has his best seasons behind him as well. Only Varane, Isco and Carvajal are in their supposed prime of the "old guard" that were crucial for their most recent successful period under Zidane.

Other than Vinicius (whose future is a complete unknown and depends on who RM decides to buy to compete with him and whether or not Zidane will show as much trust in him and if not how that will impact his future) I don't see many if any truly promising talents in their squad.

Buying a 28.5 year old Hazard who never was a goalscorer and likely never will be (most likely with his best seasons behind him too) is not really a "scary" prospect. Can't see them signing the likes of Mbappé or Neymar either anytime soon.

Changes in the football world occur quickly and it is an incredibly unpredictable sport but as written last week, after RM losing/exiting all 3 trophies left to fight for within 1 week, 2 of them directly due to us, I think that RM are bound for a few years of rebuilding. They might win 1 or 2 league titles (if lucky) before 2022 (if Zidane stays for his entire contract length) but I would be surprised if they would win more or even the CL in that period. Could be totally wrong, though. Just a feeling based on experience and having seen what usually occurs at the two Spanish giants post extremely or very successful periods. The last 10 years have been an anomaly on this front given the likes of Messi and C. Ronaldo playing for both clubs. Was/is easier to built new teams with them around.

Zidane sure is a better choice than Mourinho. Under ZZ, RM should be able to hold on and finish second or third in La Liga.

Good decision for Madrid. Zidane is a winner, but he also coached winners, and they are not the same players they were in 2017.

I thought the reason he did not continue was that Perez declined his wish to renew the squad? Would mean, he now has Perez' backing in creating yet another Galacticos project?

Which players would they go for in defense, midfield and attack?

Neymar and Hazard seem quite likely if they want to spend big. Given Zidane is back, they should have a much easier time convincing Mbappé. Mbappé can't be seriously thinking about being one of the greatest if he stays at PSG.

PSG will never let Mbappe go for a transfer fee. What I predict will happen is Mbappe will never renew with PSG and run his contract down and leave on a free in the end in a few years.

Every summer they write that Real Madrid will buy everyone and build a new Galactios, but this does not happen. I think it will not happen, they don’t have this huge money, and these clubs don’t need money. They write to us that we will buy all retirees, but galaktio just with us. Good luck to Zidane in shopping, especially Neymar.
1 Galactios-Real Madrid agree €50m deal with Porto to make Eder Militao the first summer signing for Zinedine Zidane

Defense is locked and sorted now. Even Marcelo issue seems dead in the water, nothing further will happen, maybe a Vallejo loan to check if his health withstands the rigours of a full season elsewhere.

Attack is not settled. Ney and Mbappe are unlikely. No reason to keep talking about them TBH. Would need to convince them directly and they're not the type to ditch and admit a bad choice of going to PSG.

I think with RM they have more exposure generally, it helps their individual brand much more than PSG does, RM has also much more lobbying power almost everywhere. In that sense, if RM can provide the transfer fee and similar salaries, I don't see why they wouldn't want to go to RM.

RM is 10 levels above the Qatari prison from every perspective. But you should still only go for Mbappe. Ney is on the downslide and comes with massive baggage.

am i the only one who thinks that he might dominate next few years?it's now him who rebuilds their squad and he'll be look up upon like he's literal god by the players, plus he is lucky as fuck. there's no way they are going to underperform

He doesn’t have Ronaldo. Problems will be same as usual. All depends how the usual suspects Isco, Asensio, Bale and Benzema respond to him. Bale never had it easy under him. Isco also had to force his way in. We need scorers. Zidane is here early to challenge the culprits first and foremost. It’s do or die for at least 2 of them. No mistakes permitted and only extraordinary efficiency will save their asses from this summer’s shakeup.

The best he can do is making us into CL-merchants again, because Barcelona basically owns la liga and copa, it never ends.
Competition is well and truly dead domestically, so lets just go bully some team in the knockouts again, and hope Barca tires out due to playing first team in every copa game.
