Tbh, many are defending him actually.

That' natural.

People here defended him for a season and a half.
He was young, had potential, people had high hopes regarding him.

Arsenal's fans have high hopes regarding him now.
They suck and they need "someone" to strengthen their team.
In their minds, Denis is currently that guy.

It will take some time until "a shiny new toy" syndrome/delusion and reality will align.
When that happens, their fans will find a new shiny toy in whom they will put all their faith, and that guy will or will not make it there, and then they will go through a same process of denial/illusion or he will make it.
And repeat the same process for 100 times for 70-80 years as long as every fan is alive.

Anyway, Denis played like a total crap, like he plays on majority of games.
I don't believe that he will make it at Arsenal.
He is far below Barca's level, but below Arsenal's level also.

Stoke and Betis could be his future destinations with more success.

Who do you like better? Ivan or Denis?

I had high hopes for D Suarez to be honest and he's disappointed me despite not having that many games to prove himself ...

I've never rated Rakitic to be honest .. when he played against us I just recall him basically physically bullying our little midfielders ..

He should have joined us (Everton). It will be interesting to see how he gets on at Arsenal.

I am not defending Denis either. In fact, I was happy that he left.

But it was his debut match, & that too against Manchester City. It is considerable that he didn't play well.

Arsenal is sixth on the table. He was among the better players for Villarreal back when it was a good team. I'd say Arsenal is around his level.

He had one good season with Villareal, years ago. It could easily be a flash in the pan season for him, more than his actual level. The same way Sandro went to Malaga and was a total stud, just so he could fall off the face of the planet and fail to score even a single goal in several years. I'm with BBZ in saying he won't be a success at Arsenal. 6th place in the top flight of England is still probably too high for a player of his low quality. This kind of reminds me of serghei claiming Douglas was good enough for a mid-low table La Liga team, but as it turns out he's piddling about in the Turkish league.

We will see, Gomes & Digne all are doing OK or better for the new teams, Rafinha in Italy when not injured too. (I know Paco is a better player--but still illustrates you can look kind of sucky at Barca and the next year have the look of a very good professional footballer). I think Denis is a decent top flight league footballer (more a Gomes/Rafinha than a Sandro/Munir), though for Arsenal that may not cut it.

The thing is, Rafinha is a genuinely good player. Maybe not Barca quality but every club he's gone to, he has played well for them. Digne is and always has been a permanently average player, and that pretty much describes Everton as a club, word for word. And Gomes by his own admission had deep psychological issues that prevented him from performing here. I don't think any of these actually apply to Denis. He's just not a very good footballer, if you ask me. He'll show glimpses of something good every now and then but his overall play is probably going to always be below the average of the rest of his team, unless he goes to a bottom table team.

It's great he insisted on Arsenal and refused Betis or Sevila who actually wanted to buy him. As we all expected, in almost one month he played a bit more than 50 minutes and he didn't start once. Arsenal will send him back in June and his value will drop even more. What a fucking moron...

He's been limited to sub appearances but he's been very poor whenever he came on. If he wants to stay at Arsenal he needs to play much better. He's 25 but he plays like an 18 year old, far too easily brushed off the ball and has no impact.

He's been played on the right wing but to be honest 18 year old Emile Smith Rowe who we loaned out to a bundesliga club seems a much better prospect.
