Great game, and he's obviously a great player. Still, would you guys prefer he starts over Dembele?

I maintain my position about Coutinho's long term viability in a starting role. His talent has never been questionable though, even in poor form.

nah....Dembele is already an established cold blood killah in the team while Coutinho still needs to learn

you cannot ask for more.. hogged as little as possible, cut to the middle in the right moment using his small body and that created a work of possibilities in his opposite side. he was composed, defended well and attacked well. This version of coutinho i would take everytime over dembele because it suits the style better. the fact that he and dembele are doing good now is rich people problems. good

he needs to keep it simple, played much better. near the end of the match though those sloppy give aways could of resulted in pain, the first one ended up a goal iirc and the lack of him fighting to get the ball back after losing it.. Messi might get away with it but Coutinho has alot to prove

He had a better game than the horror shows of the last few weeks. But take out the 2 goals and his game isn't really impressive either.
6/10 performance for me but since he scored 2 goals it goes up to 7/10.

Some of you guys are funny. Take away goals and I guess Messi has an OK career.

I have been telling you awhile the link up play between him, Suarez and Messi has been coming along. He hasn't been scoring but his play has been part of multiple goals. Now he scores and folks say, take away the goals and he was OK.

It is a great sign Coutinho is starting to find some rythum. Dembele starts when he comes back but having a 4th scorer and playmaker is great for this year's pursuit of another historic treble.

Depends on what you expect. 160m shouldn't be on your mind. Thus, you will always feel let down.

Good point. He didn't ask for a 160mil transfer, Liverpool did--it is on them and the corporate guys--not the players and coaches.

I still like this deal better than say whatever we paid for Turan.

Coutinho is a good player, and contributing.

Hopefully this above average (compared to his recent performances) performance tonight will give him a much needed confidence boost and propel him towards greater and more consistent performances. What I liked about him tonight, in particular, was his willingness to run the extra mile. You can mistime a pass, a drible or hit the ball badly but there should be no excuses for not tracking back, fighting or running. He did all of those 3 things. When a player does that, he does not need to do extraordinarily well in other departments of the game for him to have an above average game. Especially not a player of Coutinho's quality.

Hopefully this will be a turnaround for him. Liked the fact that he decided to take the penalty kick initially. That was a good sign.

Anyway this performance occurred without his nemesis Dembélé. I would, and I imagine that the board would agree for obvious reasons, like to see such performances ALONGSIDE Dembélé. That is up to Valverde though.

We're talking about Coutinho ffs. Not a goal poacher. I'm expecting way more from him than scoring penalties and one touch finishes in the box. If anything that should be bonus. He was supposed to be a creative magician. We haven't seen much of that these past weeks.

Take away Messi's goals and he still is the greatest playmaker and difference maker of his era. Still the best player of his era. That's the difference.
Ronaldinho scored 98 goals for Barça in 5 years. That's less than 20 goals per year. He's Barça's greatest LW ever, far ahead of a guy like Neymar who scored more.

If an AM can score goals, I'll take it but it's not his main job and if he scores goals while disappointing in other super important aspects to his game, I won't be pleased.

Coutinho scored 2 goals today but he also had several extremely poor touches that can't be tolerated when you're supposed to be an in prime world class €160m player.
Anyway, if these goals can help him regain confidence and momentum, then good. But if this is the best he has to offer, then sell him.
