21 - Frenkie de Jong

Spoken like someone who's never played football professionally, competitively, or otherwise.

Fact is Ligue 1 has been weak post Bosman ruling because it made it impossible for French clubs to compete financially with clubs from England, Italy, and Spain. See Ronaldinho's transfer from PSG to Barca, the spark that lit the fire that became FC Barcelona's current dynasty. But now that investors(QSI) are pouring money into the league to change this dynamic people like yourself are unhappy, because you no longer get the pick of litter when it comes to stars and or developing talents.

My advice would be to get over yourself. Players have to obligation to choose to play for FC Barcelona simply because it's FC Barcelona. The world doesn't revolve around you or your club, so if you want top players to wear your colors over the colors of rival institutions then you have to do the work. In this instance, you did not, and you lost out. That is no one's fault but your own.

What are you blabbering about exactly? I have played football competitively since the age of 5. Not professionally however. Great guess. Just like 99,9% of all users online have not, including yourself. Not sure what this has to do with anything?

Is Ligue 1 a secondary league compared to the elite leagues in Europe and the best league in the world and best-ranked and historically the by far most succesfull (La Liga)? Of course. Are the two French domestic cup competitions even more useless in terms of prestige, reputation and exposure? A resounding yes as well.

I am not angry at all. I would have nothing against QSG had their current fortunes been due to a shrewd business and sporting strategy that simply outclassed their domestic opponents. Suddenly turning into a PR toy of some backward dictatorial and terrorist supporting Bedouins who have too much money to know what to do with it by a "coincidence" (more precisely thanks to the corrupt Sarkozy and his dealings with Qatar), gives you no ground for respect or admiration. So yes, QSG offers nothing in comparison with Barça other than money and more or less a guarantee of domestic trophies whose reputation is in shatters. As for the current board being rather useless, you are preaching to the wrong person as I am likely their biggest opponent here or one of them at least.

Sporting Reasons :
-From his own viewpoint, he will get a 100% starting spot at PSG because, quality aside, we are so thin in quantity with only one real midfield in Verratti.
-From a collective viewpoint, it is still a better team and league than where he is right now. More realistic chances to win CL even if PSG failed hard those last years.

Monetary Reasons:
-Best financial offer for himself. Good for his future, his family future and his upbringing.
-Best financial offer for his club. Reward the clubs that believed in him instead of making those clubs lose out on some millions for his selfish interest (or dream).
-Best financial offer for his agent. Reward his agent that believed in him and negociated a great deal for his future.

Lifestyle reasons:
-Get to live in Paris as a rich young man.
-His girlfriend seems to rave about Paris, as can be seen on her Instagram. She prolly played a part in his choice. Remember she is the one that woke him up at the news PSG was closing in on him : https://en.as.com/en/2018/12/09/football/1544357580_776526.html
Paris is prolly a favorite destination for her personal life aspiration.

Bonus reason:
-Seems like he is friendly with Mbappé and they talk to each other regularly. It can seem flimsy when you compare it to his affection for Messi but look at Mbappé example : He was a fanboy of CR7 with posters all over his room. When the time came to join Real Madrid who was ready to pay the transfer fee, he prefered to go to PSG. He said he was already talking with Neymar, with whom he has a budding relationship. He said that you have your childhood dream but now, when it comes to his present and his career, he focus on Mbappé (himself) and that it is really a joy to play with Neymar. Maybe same thing applies to de Jong.

And... as a bonus... if you are handsome enough you get included in PSG's Hall of Fame after 12 games like Beckham.

Seriously, though, I agree PSG offers a very good package for a young player right now.

Sure, I am not saying there are no other reasons other than money (I am especially aware of the sporting one as you have been saying you badly need midfielders to the point that Tuchel even wanted to play Rabiot), I am saying let's not kid ourselves, if PSG didn't come up with the 75m Ajax wanted and all the money that De Jong and his agent wanted there is no way De Jong would have gone to PSG. Money is the overwhelming decisive factor here. So let's not kid ourselves with the kind of total BS that he is going to PSG because he wants to play with Neymar and Mbappe.

You’re just bitter. If it were only about money he wouldn’t have eliminated City months ago.

I think that it's becoming clearer and clearer that PSG are in a position of outspending all and sundry. PSG are now the most powerful club in the world. This is very good news for PSG fans, and bad news for everybody else, especially us and Real Madrid.

I feel people are going a bit overboard with just how good De Jong is, like he's the second coming of Jesus. Yes he would be a good acquisition but no it's not the end of the world if he goes to Ligue 1.

Barca has seen Cruyff, Maradona, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ibrahimovic, Neymar, Eto'o, Xavi, Iniesta come and go in their time and we've thrashed teams without Messi.

Missing out on De Jong, would be disappointing but not nearly catastrophic.

I struggle to see what QSG offers that any other decent top club anywhere in Spain, Italy, England and Germany (Bayern and Dortmund) cannot offer. Sporting wise they offer far less by the sheer reality of them playing in a vastly inferior domestic league (Ligue 1). Literally 85% of their entire season's games are played in 3 very secondary tournaments. Every QSG player will at most play 13 games in Europe (CL). Usually their journey ends after just 8 games.

It's barely a step above the Dutch league and Ajax. Shocking decision but it just shows lack of ambition. He will not develop properly or reach the desired potential much like Verratti who has had no progression in his game for the past 4-5 years due to playing against farmers 85% of the time for a vastly superior team. Will serve him well.

But you started it.

We are getting our money worth too. Coutinho's dilemma will work out.

The Spanish(Galacticos), English, and Italians started it. The French clubs are only trying to catch up to the economic environments the aforementioned competitions created.

hahahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahahaha. Wanting to play with Neymar and Mbappe.

Yeah right. You are so delusional.

Paris is so overrated by the way.

If you're in disbelief over the idea that young talented players are attracted to playing with other young talented players, I'm not the one that's delusional.

 Who says we don't spend it wisely? Have you looked at our trophies in the last 4-5 years? We're complaining we haven't made the CL semis in the last 3 years, while PSG never made it in their history. Just because we moan a lot, doesn't mean we are shit.

Think you have some things confused in our head. You might read on this forum how we call Suarez shit, or Messi lazy, Pique idiot and things like that. In realty these players are legends of the game.

Neither Countinho nor Dembele are worth what Barca paid for them. Sportingly nor in terms of marketing potential.

Haha, nice one ! Good banter !
It was ridiculous but smart though.

PSGxBeckham move was all about money from all parties involved.

Yesterday, our marketing side pointed out that Neymar and Mbappé are helping us a lot to penetrate new market and grow our brand. He also said that Beckham stunt was also one pivotal moment for the brand abroad.

PSG was clearly more desperate for this signing and did more to court the player.

What was the record transfer before PSG bought Neymar for 220m euros?

If you're in disbelief over the idea that young talented players are attracted to playing with other young talented players, I'm not the one that's delusional.

Once again, if you hadn't come up with 75m or whatever Ajax wants and all the money De Jong and his agent wanted, do you think he would have picked PSG? If everything else being equal (if say all three clubs offered Ajax 75m and him and his agent the same amount of money), do you think he would have picked PSG? If you think so then yes, you are truly delusional.

He is no local Paris kid like Mbappe, mind you.

If you think every player who joined PSG since Neymar and Mbappe came primarily because they wanted to play with those two, then you are hopeless.

And I don't think Neymar is worth 220m that PSG paid for him. What cares what I think? Who cares what you think?

Both are young, Neymar is soon to be 27, only got a few years left in him judging by how Brazilian players age.

I for one am not pissed at all that we didn't get De Jong. From what I have watched he is indeed very good but there are many good midfielders.

We have Arthur and Puig who are equally good, if not more.

If FDJ is really done and gone to P$G, i would put in a similar bid (70-100M) for Eriksen as soon as possible, or at least let him and his entourage know that we want/plan to sign him in the summer, as i don't see him leave in January. But we would need to move contacting Eriksen and letting him know in January or February at the latest, cause i'm sure Tottenham will do all they can to extend him before the summer, so that he doesn't enter his final year of contract in the summer. It really is a no brainer for him as well, if he wants to ever play for one of the biggest clubs and move on to bigger and better things (like he did from Ajax to Spurs, so i would imagine the next logical career step for him would be to want to go to either Barca or Madrid), he can't extend with Tottenham, and i think he knows that.

And i also really don't want Madrid getting their hands on Eriksen as well, since they'll be signing Hazard almost for sure already. And i guess FDJ has years on his side, if he ever manages to save himself from the Paris prison, we can still sign him in the future. As for Eriksen, he would bring immediate world class quality into the team, and is in my opinion a much needed upgrade over Rakitic. Gotta say that Arthur-Eriksen CM pair would be sick to have, if we plan on playing Coutinho up front or even selling him (who knows with this Board).

Overmars said very clearly he talked to both de Jong and de Ligt and money is not their motivation at all. All about the sporting project.
