Ernesto Valverde - V1

Obviously, but nothing is going to change unless you get a manager like that. Valverde simply isn't that.

Too bad Puyol wanted to become a football agent instead of a manager or else he would have definitely kicked the entitlement out of some of these guys.

Agreed.

Except next season he may be that. Expectations of an individual evolve, just like individuals attitudes themselves.

This leaderlessness is something I mentioned over and over with Barca in other threads, but it's understated and overshadowed by people whining and scapegoating. Valverde wasn't a good fit, but I don't think there was a better one at the time. It was always going to come to that ever since Xavi left. He seems to have been the piece that held the dressing room together and even Enrique managed to let himself get thrown under the bus by the locker room politicians.

It's the board who need to change first and foremost, director of football, president... Everything else is a distraction and circling around the actual problem.

Taking out Dembele at that point, while keeping on Suarez proved that he has no balls again.

This game needed Paulinho. He brings on Paco as a RW (which didn't work before). Rakitić was struggling and should've been subbed. Or Busi, and move Rakitić to CDM.

Doesn't mean EV should be the first to get the boot based on that alone. It's true it's far easier to replace the manager, but it is no coincidence it's the loyalists who are letting him down most. Messi is Messi and I don't think he leans one way or another. But those that aren't leaders or mentors by example like Busquets, Alba, Pique, Suarez.. those are the toxic people who are the root of the problematic results. One that surprises me most is Busi who is just a waste of space in a non-possession approach. Quite sad on pure attitude standpoint.

Just sacking Valverde won't change anything at all, because these dudes think they're the experienced backbone who are irreplaceable.

Agreeded except for Busi. He is a playet who can play only possession based football. He has been built as that. He was a waste of space because of his style not attitude.

Making Suarez undroppable is sack worthy alone, notwithstanding his other shenanigans. Can't stand another season of this "shitholery". Thanks to Valverde i'll have much more free time next season with him making me losing interest in football.

Dude is being royally screwed by the squad loyalists. I do feel sorry for the guy.

Ironically, even though he doesn't play Semedo and Dembele because they're young and dumb, his acquisitions are the only players actually trying. Busquets, Alba, Suarez, Pique.. all these dudes are super disrespectful here.

We're against them too in games like these. Penalize the players that you feel are not committed to the game. Sub Suarez and Busi at half time. That would send a message.

It was an instant improvement when we put in Denis, because Denis were more committed to the game than the bored stars who started this game.

True to an extent, but our players are grown men and not children. If you are a professional footballer at least your goal should be to win the match you are going into. Yes, a person like e.g. Klopp can certainly push a few more percent of energy out of players, but what we have seen today or against Roma was basically refusal to work.
I just wish that we had a manager that dares to bench even our “star“ players after performances like that, so if you mean something like that, then yes, I agree.

Some senior players are big problem but thing is, you never see Valverde sub those players off before deep into 2nd half. That's on him.

They have the backing of the board more than the manager. Pretty clearly I think and it seems with some of them it's beyond saving.

Everything is done through the manager. A weak character as a manager will always be submissive at a club like Barcelona.

Not in a club driven by board's desire to keep building it around Messi. Seems like one of the reasons that Fernandez guy, director of football, is getting sacked.

While Valverde is probably being TOO respectful towards the club's wishes to maintain philosophy, they ended up in this limbo of him trying to address the issues his own way and Barca board and players actually getting behind it.
