Barca Transfers and Rumors

Yes.

Can you?

Let me break it down for you.

1. Almost 30 years old in a team already struggling with ageing players

2. Very high salary, easily among the top 5 paid if he comes

3. Plays his best behind a striker, in the same spaces Messi in his current role wanders in

4. Not the best of work rates or stamina in the World and can have troubles just like Cesc had when the shove comes to push

5. Did I mention his age? You want us to bring a guy like that over a much younger player, a more agile player, a more fast player, a better dribbler with far better work rate in a midfield begging for all that?

1. 29 years old at 20 Million on a 2.5 year deal. Slap on a 40/50 Million buyout and it's great business.

2. So? He comes in at a steal in terms of transfer fee.

3. He is versatile. He is being used a right inside forward for Arsenal so could easily take up an advanced midfield position on either side of Busquets.

4. This I agree with.

5. Yes you did, but did you factor in price, salary, inconsistency, injuries and the fact that Ozil is just a better midfielder than Coutinho. He is a significantly better passer and creates way more chances than Coutinho.

Edit: I still don't see how any of this is linked to Arda. He was just bad business... He wasn't very good and was signed on a 5 year deal...

I for the life of me can't fathom, other than the age factor and dribbling, why Coutinho is preferred over Ozil.

As a midfielder Ozil whoops Coutinho and at 20 Million on short term deal it's good business.

Ozil is the quintessential choker. He nearly always disappears in big games. Cesc is a clutch player compared to him. 50 million for Fekir would be better business.

I agree. Even on a free Ozil would be a bad deal: We need to plan for the longterm, that is what Real has been doing with success over the last couple of years.
People only want Ozil right now, because our midfield-problems are so evident, I guess no-one would wait for him to arrive in the summer, and that says it all really about the short-sightedness in such an operation.

This might seriously be happening eh?

Even Barto hinted that we will likely need a purchase in January to compete for the CL this year.

Yes, but can't that still be done with CL-tied players? Like Iniesta only playing CL would arguably give Barca a much bigger chance of winning it in the end, with the new guy taking over in La Liga. I don't know if he could think that way..

First we wanted Coutinho, who is 25. Next we wanted Griezmann, who is 26. Now we want Ozil, who is 29. If the trend continues, we will soon have Lampard, Ronaldinho and Henry as our transfer targets.

We need to find long-term solutions, even if that means missing on Champions League title this year. Buying players like Ozil will do more damage than anything else in the long term.

We're after someone who can replace our starters.
TYPICALLY a player than can replace our starters is entering peak hence 25-28

we bought plenty of 22/23 year olds and most of them flopped minus umtiti and semedo.

But we have bought enough Ardas as well. That is why we should get Ozil and not Herrera or Mata either.

Is it really short sighted if you get him on a short term deal at a fee that’s peanuts... Aleñá is waiting in the wings and should start seeing minutes and the odd start. I’m all for young talents and there is time for that but we need to clear out the deadwood and add some quality now. Özil is a good uncomplicated deal.

who would be considered arda's??

in the past 7 years we bought players that were 27+

Paulinho 29 (summer 2017)
Cillessen 27 (summer 2016)
Turan 28 (summer of 2015)
Luis Suarez 27 (summer of 2014)
Mathieu 31 (summer of 2014)
Vermalean 29 (summer of 2014)
Bravo 28 (summer of 2014)
David Villa 29 (summer of 2010)
Mascherano 27 (summer of 2010)

From that list, only 2 flopped... and honestly Vermalean probably would of been a great purchase for us if it wasn't for his injuries

i don't understand this fear of buying players 25+
