We need more than one good player in each position and La Masia is producing nothing at the moment so we have to buy. Bellerin and Bob would see the position sewn up for years and Bob can cover midfield as well.

Otherwise it's just money-down-the-drain signings like Douglas and Vidal every other year by trying to get cover on the cheap.

That being said there's a limit to what should be paid.

Belleriñ lacks intelligence.

He will struggle at Barca and in La Liga.

Pace isn't everything.

You can't really pass judgement like that on a 21 year old defender playing every week in the league/champions league. Just being in that situation alone proves that he has potential. Most defenders his age are playing in B teams, on loan in lower leagues, or sitting on the bench somewhere. He was educated in the best academy in the world, and is years from being in his prime. Last season he was one of our most consistent and reliable players. He just needs to learn how to cross

I know it is unrealistic, but that is the maximum sum we should consider. I agree that Arsenal will demand twice or triple that, and that is why Bellerin shouldn't be interesting for us.

There's absolutely no need to pay 40m for Bellerin. Roberto is the starter RB, he needs a sub like digne.

Roberto is obviously better than Bellerin who is a stupid player in comparison. We should have bought someone like Ricardo Pereira or Djibril Sidibe as LB though who can play on both sides. Now we have to focus on signing Srna in January.
