Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

Do you consider the possibility of it being a publicity stunt like " He sold his golden boot for victim's in Palestine or he donated money for people in Nepal. Both were proved to be fake later.

It doesn't mean the catastrophe at Madeira was false as well though as it actually happened...

Cristiano's interview with UEFA.com

How does last season rate in the context of your career?

In terms of trophies it was possibly the best of my career. After winning the Champions League, winning the European Championship with my country capped an extraordinary year. The same goes both collectively and individually, because I was top scorer in the Champions League and had a good European Championship. It really was a top-drawer, excellent season for me.

Looking back at last term's UEFA Champions League. What kind of emotions come to mind when you think about the final?

It was an amazing experience. Once again [as in 2014] against Atlético Madrid, who are an excellent side and also deserved to win the Champions League ... but Real Madrid were better. We had a bit of luck in the shoot-out because penalties are always a lottery. It was the pinnacle of a difficult season for Real Madrid in which we were ultimately able to win the biggest trophy in club football.

What impact did Zinédine Zidane have on the squad after his appointment in January?

Zidane was key. He's a great professional, a great person and, in my opinion, his biggest quality is his ability to give his players a sense of calm. That's what we needed and after he arrived the team went from 0 to 100. We were 12 points behind Barcelona and we ended up just one point adrift. In the Champions League we did what we had to do – and went on to win it. What more could you ask? Zidane deserves a lot of credit.

Then there was the EURO, when Portugal made history by winning the competition in what was an epic final. What was that experience like?

Before the EURO we expected Portugal to have a good European Championship, get through the group stage, get through the quarter-finals and from there we saw everything as a bonus. To be honest I didn't think Portugal could win the EURO. But match by match I started believing it was possible. In the end we deserved it, we played as a team and our players are to be congratulated.

And what about your [club and international] team-mate Pepe, whom you've known for a long time. What qualities does he have and what does he bring to the dressing room?

I'm happy you asked me this question so that I can say that, in my book, Pepe was extraordinary this year. It was possibly his best season. He was undoubtedly Portugal's best player and one of Real Madrid's best players in the Champions League. I'm delighted he was selected in the Team of the Tournament at the EURO – in my opinion Pepe was the best player at the EURO.

This will be your 14th season in the UEFA Champions League. What does this competition mean to you?

It's an honour to play in the Champions League, the most important competition. And being the leading scorer in the competition's history makes it even more special for me. This tournament is special for me, it's special for Real Madrid, so we will try to win it again this season.

~ Let's evaluvate how player's won Uefa award's since it was started in 2011

~ Lionel Messi (2011) - > Scored against Real Madrid and Manchester united in Ucl on their road to title.
Scored against Real Madrid and all the top 4 team's in La liga , scored in Suoer copa De espana Vs Madrid twice

~ Andres Iniesta (2012) - Best player of Euro's . Motm winning Performance against might y Italian's in Euro Final

~ Frank Ribery (2013) - Assisted Robben in Ucl final vs Dortmund and assisted twice in Semi Final vs Barcelona ..

~Ronaldo (2014) - Scored against Bayern in Sf and Dortmund in Qf and was one of the best players of that Ucl season against quality team's . Completely deserving

~Lionel Messi (2015) - Arguably greatest individual season for a player in Europe . Scoring assisting , Commanding influence in midfield with key passes ,chances created, dribbles , . He was Motm against Man City with out even scoring a goal , giving two Assist's in Etihad , Scored against Psg in Qf , Scored and assisted against Bayern in Sf , Was involved in all three goal's in Ucl final ,against Juventes

~ 2016 - Now compare that to mighty season of Ronaldo . one goal and one assist vs top 4 team's in La liga .0 vs City , Psg , And Atletico in Ucl
0 vs france and Croatia in Euro's .
13 out of 16 goal's in Ucl vs Malmao and Shakthar . only scored in 2 out of 7 match's In Euro . Absolute joke.

It isn't that Cristiano is not a great player anymore, it's just that it feels like he's getting empty awards now soley because his name and what his teams won.

You can't sit there and tell me he's the best player in the world or from Europe when analyzing his whole 90 min performances.. and what sucks is that another ballon d'or is awaiting him tbh.

Well said. It doesn't really matter what he does, as long as Real Madrid wins major trophies he wins these awards, no matter how decisive he was, deservedly or not.

2015 calendar year , i was lucky enough to witness one of the finest display of individual brilliance from Messi against top notch team's which fetched him Ballon dor. It's just a shame that Penaldo is gonna win it this year for his shitty statspadding against shitty team's . Very same year were he blamed young Vasquez and Jessi for Real's lose against Atleti in La Liga #Leader

I get why he won though. You need to look past the easy route to the final. In the end they will give it based on cl/euro performance. Portugal eliminating Wales eliminates Bale. Barca players are out since they didnt play Euros and we lost to Atletico in cl. League is pretty much ignored.
With that in mind they might have given it to Griezman had he won anything but since he didnt it could only be Pepe or Ronaldo when you consider them factoring in these trophies won so much for this award. Pepe has the same rep as Suarez does and is a defender. Also, stats lie. Ronaldo eliminated Wolfsburg, was cl topscorer, got Portugal trough the groupstages and past Wales to play manager in the final. Also scored the winning penaldo in the final.

Of course its not as admirable like it is on paper, he scored all his goals vs midgets, was invisible in both finals (once due to injury), saved them from situations they shouldnt have been in (like screwing up a simple task at work then being the hero to stop the company from going under due to said mistake). And he still has the stats to back up his claim despite its mostly him being a flattrack bully.

He got lucky all things considered, its understandable why he won. More than his ballon d'or will be, which is a pr pushed popularity contest.
In reality he isnt the top 2 player anymore which he has been almost every year since 2007. He is arguably top 5 at the moment. In pure quality and football shown.

Yup but Barca/Messi also have to be blamed, they were on a roll but they decided to fall apart in the most important part of the season.
