It's clearly the weakest spot in our first 11. We need a top top signing there, unless by some miracle we turn Roberto from a midfielder into one of the best RBs in the world, which is highly unlikely.

You guys realize there is an actual lack of World Class fullbacks in the world now right? At least the ones who you could afford. Name me some you think are better than Roberto and Vidal and are affordable right now.

Any top flight RB in the world who can dribble would be better. It's not like Vidal and Roberto are the pinnacle of fullback quality or anything.

They are perfect
Trust me, we'll never be able to find a better pair of RBs
even our manement realized that too
Don't let a few games on bad form sway your perspective

Fabinho.

Squawka has him overall last season at a score of 584, better than Dani last season and marginally lower than Bob's at 590 (mainly due to his MF minutes). He had 98 clearances and 76 interceptions, out performing a number of top class RBs in Europe in this respect. His offensive contribution wasn't bad either with over 20 key passes and 3 assists in a very defensive Monaco side. This was also a down year for him as well, yet he still had a very solid season in sum.

Too bad Mou is about to snatch him up. He's not outlandishly expensive either, looks like Mou put in a £25 million offer which is pretty reasonable.

So he was in his team where he's accustomed and used to teammates and league and still couldnt outperform Sergi Roberto at Barca, who is new to the position and shifted all across the pitch

590 at monaco, all factors considered might turn to at most 400 at Barca :coffee:

Monaco struggled a bit this season collectively and we are talking a measly 6 points here. You have short memories because he was excellent two seasons ago and is really solid defensively. He's overall a better defender than Bob by far and even in a Monaco side that had a slightly disappointed season, he still performed well.

He has the edge on Bob in height, interceptions, clearances, and they are both relatively even in offensive production in chances created and assists. The only thing Bob has on him is pass completion % and whys that? Because he's a midfielder and he plays for Barça, a team that usually has the lions share of the ball, unlike a defensive minded Monaco, where Fabinho helped be a key part of their fast paced counter attacks.

I personally fancy Bob further up the pitch and I'd like to see him be our main sub for Raki this season. While he performed reasonably well in that role in La Liga games, he wasn't tested that much starting as the RB in the big matches. Right now, he's the closest Xavi we have now and that's where I want him to play for us.

I don't understand, if Lucho doesn't count on Vidal or doesn't like him, why doesn't Robert sell him for 15mil and use this funds for a proper RB?

Because there aren't many proper RBs that are WC and would fit our system.. Bellerin would fit the profile but he would be expensive.. Don't forget we need to sign back up striker this summer.. If my math is correct after signing Digne, we still have 52M left for new players.. Assuming back up striker will be up to 20-25M, we are left with 30-25M wich is not enough for any world class RB.. I rather see we spend big on world class RB then to sign a cheap RB that isn't Barca first team quality. Currently I only see Bellerin as replacment for Alves.. I gotta feeling we will go after Bellerin next summer..

I believe Joao Cancelo would be a good signing, maybe better than Bellerin...
Bellerin is more of a pacey defender, like Alba. I don't think he's a quality crosser like Alves was or is he?
I would rather go for Cancelo than Bellerin and considering that Valencia had a horrible season and won't be playing in any European competition, Cancelo may request a transfer if we show interest in him. Therefore, we may get him for a bargain price.

Just 2 pre-season games, but the RB situation is worrying. The other issues were solved, and I really hope Lucho and Robert reconsider their position about this. I don't trust Bob or Vidal defensively, this could be a really weak link on the team. I'd sell Arda and get a rb and a fwd, or keep Munir and sign a rb. But I think we really need a rb.
