I think he means that with the new investors Atletico can afford to not take good offers like that now and actually keep their good players. Selling Griezman would be taking a step backwards.

Griezman is not Messi. And history showed that Atleti never had much difficulties replacing their forwards, no matter how big their shoes were to fill for their successors. The rumored price for Griezman is a great offer for Atletico to take. With the recent rumors about Simeone being interested in signing Vietto Atleti can spend the money wisely on him and the other players, specially if Koke and Godin leave for Chelsea as well.

No Godin thx. We don't need another 30+ year old defender. >_<

But yeah, Atletico always have good strikers, losing Griezmann wouldn't even make a dent tbh. That said I don't really want to pay £43m for him when he's not even guaranteed to start over Costa.

Costa, Falcao, Torres, Diego Forlan... Pretty sure none of them are French. :p Morten worded it wrong, they don't "create" good strikers, but whenever they do sell their top striker they just replace him with a guy who scores just as many, if not more. It's insane.

No, more like France produces awesome youth.

Knew some smart-mouth was going to come and argue about it. I said "in one way or another", i didnt say they had to come from the local youth-team or something. They are great at spotting potential gems and creating a system for their strikers to thrive in.

Griezmann is quite a few goals away from what Falcao scored in each of his seasons.

Forlan and Costa also scored more in their best seasons.

But as a first season, goal wise, he's done very well.

I knew I was missing somebody, I kept thinking Fabiano but he was Sevilla.

Oh yeah, 22 is pretty good, and he can still score some more. If he reaches 25+ then that's brilliant for a first season.

Griezmann isnt always a striker, doesnt he play quite alot on the flank as well? Replacement for William/Willian?

I was thinking that actually, not so much as a replacement for Willian, but Mourinho wants good quality and versatile options. That's also why he likes Koke, he wants versatility in his players to be able to cover for injuries and such. Still, £43m, unless he's going to start all the time I don't want him, even if I do really like him.
