Thiago Alcantara

Thiago will not play at the World Cup. I'd bet anything on it. And I'd also be willing to bet that moving to ManUtd doesn't improve his chances, either.

The first 1 is fair enough, the second one id take that bet, but seeing as the only person whod know the answer to that would be Del Bosque theres no way wed know if that were true or not.

Regardless of whether he joins us or not, i always think regular football = better chance then sporadic appearances here and there it certainly wont make his chances any worse, it cant, hes not even on the radar as we speak so it can only improve.

Well that is why I think WC is not the main reason, it's excuse.

You think its about money? why then would he and his advisers be talking to Manchester United then? why not one of the nouveau riche clubs like PSG or Monaco? maybe an Anzi or at least a Chelsea or City? all these clubs offer greater financial reward than Manchester United or Barcelona.

I dont think its about money, i saw an interview with him before the U21 tournament where a female reporter asked him about his 'low release clause' and what he made of it, his words were something like 18 million is a lot of money no? didnt strike me as someone who had his eye on $$$ but who knows, didnt he last sign a contract with you on really low wages to?

Thiago moving to UTD to play in the WC 2014 is stupid. Playing ahead of Cleverly, Anderson.. Won't convince Del Bosque... WHile, staying at Barca and proving that he'll be able to replace Xavi will guarantee for him a starting place with Spain (Euro 2016).

I don't think it's about money, or the wc. I think he saw the opportunity to be in a lead role right now at man u, like he did for spain u21. At Barça he'd have to wait, and fight for the position. More money doesn't hurt, surely, but imo is not the main reason.

Is it really important who hed be playing ahead of or more important how he actually played given the chance?

Hes not going to be given the chance to displace Xavi, your managers already told him this by all accounts, he would probably be rotated more for the lesser games when Xavi needed a rest etc but for the big glamour matches he wont be playing, this idea of staying to fight for his place and prove hes good enough falls down immediately because everyone knows its not an option, Xavi isnt Competing for any position, hes an automatic starter, he owns a starting plac and deservedly so mans a legend and one of your key players, theres nothing Thiagos going to do to push Xavi to the bench for the big games, which is why Vilanova has told Thiago to be patient, because he cant give him the games ahead of Xavi.

I agree entirely, thats exactly how i see it, he wants to be the main guy in a big club now, he feels hes good enough and probably knows he would be in most other clubs outside of Barca, waiting for Xavi to retire isnt overly appealing when your in a position where you dont need to.

Yes, I think it's about money, but that doesn't necessary means he is greedy SOB, especially when you get opportunity to take both - money and club. After all he is not 30, he has time for Anzhi. But he also has time to play and establish himself in his maternal club yet he chooses to go.

Tito didn't tell him that he couldn't displace Xavi. He just told him that he couldn't guarantee it. If Thiago starts putting in superior performances to Xavi and cuts out the elementary errors then he could earn himself the starting spot and reduce Xavi to the role of a squad player. But if he wants that starting spot, he's going to have to earn it. Trying to hold the club to ransom isn't going to work.

Thiago is setting himself for a mega fail here...

Sad he's gone, very short-sighted decision but none of this would have happened had our incompetent manager and owner realized this clause in his contract.

Too be completely frank however, I don't think UTD realize the player they are getting. He's not going to boss games like he does for the u-21s, he still needs a year or two before he can play at that level consistently at the world class level UTD will need from him. After all, we saw how torrid of a time de gea had when he first stepped in. I don't see this ending well for him, regardless of what his ambitions are.

Why you would pass up playing with Messi and Neymar for a majority of your career is beyond me, but I wish him the best of luck

Do you really believe that? i dont see it honestly, Xavi on one working limb was being dosed with painkillers patched up and picked over Thiago last season, i dont see whats going to change in a few weeks? Xavi's fit Xavi plays, hes an icon at your club and key to how your entire team functions, hes not going to suddenly be rendered to squad player because of Thiago in his limited opportunitys against lesser sides playing well, i think if there was even a hint of that being true vilanova would have used it when trying to convince Thiago to stay.

The whole story out of Barcelona to Thiago is about patience, you'll have it all but not yet, wait for Xavi to retire, thats the part it seems Thiago isnt impressed about.

Easy, then be better than Xavi

So some fans are hurt because Thiago isn't patient enough to wait for a chance to outshine Xavi (which in Tito's eyes, will never happen) and instead wants to make a name for himself at a different club. Honestly it's not always 100% Barca and not every cantera player is obliged to be diehard loyal to the club. It's insane what some people expect him to do just to satisfy them.
