Kylian Mbappé

I have to disagree. I see a player who seems like he’s lost the desire. I know he had his highest scoring year but 5 of those goals came in two games against part timers in the cup to boost his tally and he scored more penalties than any other season in his career.

You compare the Mbappe of a few years ago, the lad was an absolute demon. Now he’s weirdly passive for a lot of games.

Yeah, I've to disagree too.

Mbappe was never a consistent demon, he was always hot and cold. Even in the World Cup, Griezmann was better player until the semis. A stupid decision by Otamendi and he was suddenly the hero of France and had great world cup.

This is the same from what we have seen last year, when you consider he also played 2nd least league minutes in his career since he was fully promotes.

Mbappe is an excellent representation of the new generation of football. Much too early, much too soon, along with rapidly accelerating training methods and science meaning players are hitting their ceiling very fast.

Practically hasn't improved as a footballer since he was 20 years old. He is possibly regressed from that point.

Part of that will be the fact that having risen to prominence so quickly, PSG and France demanded star player quality out of him game in and game out, which limits focus on his development as a player. In the midst of that, it was not identified, or cared about, that Mbappe clearly lacks versatility and understanding in switching between attacking positions.

He could still turn out to be a massive hit for them, but it depends on if they will take the time to retrain him and focus on developing him as a player rather than focusing on him as a marquee signing. He's become one dimensional after all those years at PSG and needs much more tactical understanding to be able to fit in at Madrid.

He's peaked especially mentally.

Doesn't look like he has the drive or hunger anymore like he did. It seems all those years at PSG of him making absurd amount of money and being catered to every whim made him basically made him soft.

Now he expects everyone around him to do the work for him.
Its important to put these things into perspective. When you're a teenager being treated as a footballing god, and later in your 20s, for many years, you would naturally start to lose desire and will to improve and continue developing. Those are very formative years and he was plunged into the limelight during them.

Nobody at PSG demanded improvement from him or investigated further developing his skills. He was just a footballing prince there, and they spent year after year begging him to stay. Then he goes to Madrid who will replace anyone if they don't meet their expectations no matter who.

Being Mbappe is no longer good enough and he has to adapt or sink. Despite his vast experience, its all come in a very easy and pampered context at PSG where he never faced these kind of challenges to his status.

Real Madrid 2024/25, MOTM tracker:
• Kylian Mbappé: 6
• Fede Valverde: 3
• Vinícius Jr : 2
• Jude Bellingham: 1
• Thibaut Courtois: 1
• Rodrygo: 1

Believe it or not, this is true. Think it's needless to say he was not the best player in any of the 6 MOTM he won, including the one against Getafe tonight.

The league wants to push him as well, hence why they give him free MOTM for mediocre performances.
