He flops. Given how young he is and how cheap we will get him for, we won't lose much and I suspect another EPL team would give him a shot for around 20m.

He flops, and he will still be starting for another couple of years because Barca is super loyal to GK, and then he will be loaned out until the end of contract, probably with us paying part of his salary.

25M for a GK is like 50M for a CB, he will be the 15th most expensive GK ever, with some of those ahead of him either in ancient history, or over reported deals like Neto. It isn't cheap for a GK, it just doesn't affect the rest of the plans.

Look, I love optimism around transfers, but there is no such thing as risk free transfers with signings like this.

There is a lot to like with Joan, he is fairly young, he knows the City and the league along many of our player that were in the Youth and Olympic teams. As as shot stopper, he conceded only 88% of the goals he was supposed to concede. In Comparison. MATS conceded over 100% in past 2 seasons, his best was 75% in 22/23 year. Tek conceded 100% this season.
He is dominant in crossing, he has potential in sweeping as his numbers weren't bad. He has the tools to be elite.

So, it is great to look forward to those attributes, but OTOH let's not get ahead of ourselves and think he is some sort of sure things with no drawbacks.

Most important will be how he'll adapt to a sweeper keeper role playing with a high backline coming from a team that defends very deep.
Tek tried his best to adapt and did fairly well for a conservative keeper, could easily see how he got more and more comfortable outside his box. He did what was asked of him even if he isn't the traditional sweeper keeper. If Garcia is open to learning he will have no issues with this.

I'm not sure how he will turn out, but from what I've seen of him, he does look pretty good.

But I think there's also a desperation aspect. We went years with just too many goalkeeper errors, and fans just want someone new. I'm glad at least the club seen that it's time for a change.

GK is such a hard position to scout, especially at mid to lower table teams.

Inter reached CL final with Onana in goal and look at him now, there are never any guarantees.

The way I see it, all signs are positive. And I may sound like a broken record, but it's easy to look better than the keepers we had this season. Let's face it, Inaki Pena looked very good and probably a tie with Tek as our best keeper of the season. Surely this Joan Garcia is a more talented, better keeper than Inaki Pena.

Surely we can be expect that, if we'll not be at the level of the best clubs in Europe in our goal (hard to expect this tbh), we will start to look at least somewhat comparable with those sides.

I've only seen one truly elite save in CL this season from our keepers. Tek save vs Benfica in the 1-0 win. The one where Pavlidis or Akturcoglu had a great shot at the far post and Tek scraped it past the frame of the goal with the tip of his fingers. Was a great save.

I would say that save was something I would've noted and commented about if it was done by Courtois or, on a recent run of form, Donnarumma.

Even if we'll continue to receive more goals than other teams, I want to be able to say in almost every game we play, that this or that save was great. And I'm not talking about shots that hit the keepers because the opponent doesn't do a good job or doesn't place it well. I mean tough shots going in the corner and the keeper pulling a top effort to deflect it wide.

That's because the role is way overrated in here. Onana or Sommer are not elite GKs. Lunin got Madrid to a CL final.

Bar some legends of the game, which we don't go for at GK anyway, most good GKs are at the same level. Form varies for all GKs, due to injuries, team/defense performance, tactics etc.

Well, let's hope he'll be worth the hype. If yes, we'll have a problem less for the foreseeable future and he'll suit a young, talented and motivated team to mark an era.

Didn't expect things to go so quickly in the end, but good that they did. So the club and MAtS have all cards on the table.

I remain sceptical before I see him in Flick's system, but I trust Deco and Flick to have made the right decision.

Is he signed? I don't see anything close to it being a done deal. Don't want to celebrate too early and end up with egg on my face.
