Joan García

There's no decision to be made.
We need to be at 1:1 rule, he doesn't want a similar situation like Olmo. Just like Nico, he wants either assurance or is waiting for the financial year to start, and to see if we are in a position to register new players.
Also, I don't think he would want any of that asinine loan proposal that was reported i the papers.
I am also afraid of this fucking FFP.

When new financial year is starting?

From tommorow?

Well if we can't afford 25m then might aswell close the club.

NEt spend in past three seasons is nothing.

Funny to see, how easy it is to hype people with some compilations and exploiting dumb Social Media narratives.

He's a young GK coming slowly, but surely into his prime years, who had ONE excellent season. Nothing more, nothing less so far.
He's already way above talent age, last summer his market value was 800k € with 23 years of age. Although he played 2000 minutes last season for Espanyol as well, nobody knew or cared about him.
As a matter of fact, he's already 4 years in Espanyol's senior team and people started noticing him this season. They freak out by now as if he's some 16 year old, once in a decade talent, because the hype increases exponentionally.
And that's not even to mention, that he never played a highline before, the most difficult system for a goalkeeper to look good and perform in.

Of course the club needs to think about him because of his performance this season, age, "low" release clause and him being a Catalan who knows the league already. But this hype currently about him is ridiculous. The same people will start to insult him the minute he makes a game losing mistake.

Thanks, tebas for this.
His beloved club spends upwards of 150m each year and high salaries without an issue. But other laliga teams are struggling in Europe because of his arbitrary FFP rules.

Don't think so. The keeper he is supposed to replace is a serial gaffeur as French say. Nobody would have an issue with Stegen if he'd make blunders rarely.

Now, if this Garcia guy starts and does dumb shit frequently, or looks like a clown at every cross, or does funny shit instead of stopping shots... that's a different situation. Of course fans will turn on him as well.

We're not in a position where only a top class keeper can improve our team. Any good keeper will do it very fast. Hell, retired Tek upgraded us coming straight from Mabela leisure resorts or where he spent his time relaxing and smoking his cigars.

This is not because Tek performed amazingly. But because the keeper situation at the club is dire. Any keeper who does his job and saves some difficult shots from time to time will be an upgrade. Hell, Pena was an upgrade vs Stegen in the Bilbao match he played instead of the terrorist. Or vs Madrid, or in other matches as well.

The hype is more about MATS leaving/benched than Garcia joining.

I would compare Joan Garcia more to Keylor Navas' situation.

Keylor Navas had a bit of forgettable career until his second season at Levante where he became the starter and was the best GK in La Liga.

Was then signed by Real Madrid and was a top five GK in the world.

Difference is that Keylor Navas was even older. He was around 28 years old.

My point is that with GKs the explosion might be sudden if they get more regular time and get to start so I wouldn't count it against Joan Garcia, but it's true that he might not be a success if it turns out to be a purple patch or if he struggles with the pressure/mental aspect of playing at a club like Barca.

It's a risk/gamble worth to take though at the price and given the season he had, and most importantly because the current starter is coming off multiple knee injuries and surgeries and is 33 years old and a 'shorter' GK. I haven't looked up the stats for it, but I've always noticed that the shorter GKs tend to fall off quicker because they rely more on their athleticism while taller ones with a longer reach and long arms can make up for it somewhat and play a bit longer.

Navas was an, in the know, top keeper for LaLiga fans for years prior to Madrid move. Only question mark was his height and ability on crosses.

His heroics at WC2014 is what really made Madrid decide to buy him. Topping a group with Uruguay, England and Italy, winning the KO game versus Greece and then another spectacular game taking Costa Rica to penalties in the quarters. Where they lost.

So yeah, he was great but needed that world cup marketing spice to make a big boy finally sign him.

The rest is history.

Talking about Navas I remember there was talk about us signing him as well when Valdes got injured using the emergency signing rule La Liga had until recently.

But Zubi already had his eyes set on ter Stegen for the summer and didn't want to bring in another starter.
Then Lucho comes in and demands Claudio Bravo anyway.
