Speaking about the league, I think this one would get vetoed by them if it wasn't Lakers...

The league has no right to veto a legal trade.
With CP3 , the New Orleans were in weird spot. Owner wanted out or died not so sure, so the league collectively decided to buy it, and then sell it within a season or so. So, during that time, the acting owner was the commissioner.

So when the deal agreed, he stepped in, and did his job as an owner.

Very rare and exclusive case, that was exacerbated due to bad front office, and the name of the lakers.

So, from the press conference with Kidd and Harrison just before they got pounded by Cavs (50-19 first quarter):

- Harrison did this by his own choice.
- Kidd didn't know about the trade before it happened. Which is mental.
- Rob Pelinka asked Nico if he was joking, which is probably the question every normal person would ask at this moment.
- Owners went along with Harrison and probably just thought about savings with no max contract (without thinking about jersey sales).
- Harrison just goes on and tries to paint himself as a contrary genious.

From the body language, Kidd looks dead inside.

Nico Harrison from 2 pages back:
I believe that defense wins championships, I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future.

and... Cleveland scored 91 points on Mavs in the first half. Ended 144-101.

Another weird deal that sent De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs, Zach Lavine to Sacramento and Bulls took bunch of mediocre Spurs players + top 10 draft pick.

Ok, Lakers just got a freak of a center in Mark Williams from Charlotte. They are contenders now, if he stays healthy.

He didn't play a single playoff game, or more than 43 games in a regular season. Solid addition, but so far Lakers are more of a pretender than contender. They nees another solid piece

I guess we'll see. A lot will be shown in the post All-Star part of the season. If pissed off Luka takes them on a run like he did with Dallas during last part of the season last year, they can reach WCF IMO, even finals, but likely won't be able to beat Celtics (who will likely come out of the East). But even that depends on Williams being healthy.

They have a much worse team than the one Dallas had last year tbh, and the teams in the West are growing, OKC are now a team with Playoff experience, same with Memphis, Denver etc. They need a fully healthy Williams, Lebron & Luka, whom all 3 weren't that healthy in the past, they will also need Lebron to show up on both ends in the Playoffs, which is very unlikely, then Reddik need to overperform. Just too many IF tbh, and can be said about many other teams in the West.

Hell, GSW are 11th, but IF everything clicked for them at the right time, especially with Butler trade, they can come of the West. Same for Memphis, Hell, maybe even Wolves and Mavs. OCK and Denver are both true contenders for me.

I still have a feeling OKC will fold in the playoffs. Denver, yeah. Jokić is cooking. It will be interesting.
