It's no rocket science. You can stop any player from the current ones if you put 2-3 players on him, especially if one of those is a top 3 fullback in the game at worst, if not the very best currently. The issue with that is it's gonna free up space for your other players.
If teams want to overcrowd and double or even triple mark Yamal, they can do it, and he will have a quieter match for sure. What that will do to other players who will get more space in return, well, that's the challenge.
They handled Yamal very well (he had an off game also), but Oyarzabal hurt them a lot as he had more space. A good central attacker will exploit the increased space between the LCB and LB, if the LB stays too close to the opposing team's RW.
You are right about free space for other players.
Some posters don't want to accept that but this is why I am mad at Yamal vs Inter.
Go and watch extra half.
He was constantly running into a wall of 3-4 defenders.
Eric was alone all the time, Yamal rarely passed to him.
Raph and Fermin were alone on the left flank all the time or in 2 vs 2 situations.
But no, Yamal played hero ball for 30 minutes.
Now I'll get replies: we were in the semis because of him.
Ok.
But he still ruined the extra half with braindead decisions.
First that shot into the post at 3:2.
And then 30 minutes of terrorist hero ball football.
So, yeah, in theory, if 3 players mark Yamal, then our other players will have easy shots on goal.
The problem is, the last time when it mattered, Yamal wasn't passing the ball to free teammates:
1) either due to inexperience and bad decisions making
2) either due to his ego
We'll see whether he'll find a solution in the next important European KO match.
