19 - Lamine Yamal

It's no rocket science. You can stop any player from the current ones if you put 2-3 players on him, especially if one of those is a top 3 fullback in the game at worst, if not the very best currently. The issue with that is it's gonna free up space for your other players.

If teams want to overcrowd and double or even triple mark Yamal, they can do it, and he will have a quieter match for sure. What that will do to other players who will get more space in return, well, that's the challenge.

They handled Yamal very well (he had an off game also), but Oyarzabal hurt them a lot as he had more space. A good central attacker will exploit the increased space between the LCB and LB, if the LB stays too close to the opposing team's RW.

From someone who saw messi since day 0.

Lamine yamal at 18 >>> messi at 18 it's so clear to anyone who seen both from the start.

But (a big big but)

The rawness of messi at 18 >>>> anyone ever at that age including yamal. The way he carried the ball and his explosiveness was already outta this world.

It was weird seeing him pocketed by Mendes.

But it was also about time someone pocketed him lol.

Every great player gets pocketed at one point or another.

Btw Mendes is on a trajectory that could possibly see him go down as one of the best fullbacks of all time.

No shame in that.

Mendes is top class. But what i've noticed that lamine was not that much invovled in attacking him, either because he felt discomfort or because his soul hurt seeing mingueza behind his back

Also, it's not talked about enough that DLF fuked up big time by starting Mingueza instead of Porro. Yamal plays much better with an RB that pushes forward and supports him. Mingueza is worse than Fort in attack. Just simple tactics really, made no sense to start Mingueza which basically neuters Yamal's attacking. And before you get started and tell me he did that because Mendes would torch Porro, well it happened either way with Mingueza....

I don't understand why some people here were offended by the comparisons with Mahrez. Mahrez was a great footballer. I'm just saying that you shouldn't expect Lamine to become an absolute number one, like Messi was in his time.

Well, look at Mahrez. Lamine is stylistically more Mahrez than Messi or even Neymar.

No it's not clear. It's just a different context.

Even a guy like Mendes, who btw is an absolute beast, gets a bit overrated because of recency bias and more importantly the state of football these days.

Let it not be forgotten, he has 3+ defenders on him multiple times.

The kid even has Ronaldo coming back to defend him.

The theme in the dressing room probably was, "we will not lose to a fucking teenager".
Mingueza as right back............Olmo, Fermin,Cubarsi, Balde not playing..but we saw bums like Oyarzabal, Pino, Baena, Le Normand or Morata play lol...

De la Fuente is a clown.
