19 - Lamine Yamal

Truly the best player on the planet imo as well. No contest for me. Couldn't care less about the BD. There is a notable increase in his trickery imo in the last months. He adds new stuff to his dribbling arsenal. Scary thing is he is gonna get a bigger player in time. His head seems screwed on firmly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Yamal ends up winning the Balon D'or.

Sure Dembele won the CL and had a fantastic season but the way players and ex players and legends and coaches have been talking they see Yamal having no equal this season.

Which says a lot considering guys like Dembele, raphinha, Salah and midfielders like Pedri, Vitinha, neves etc had incredible seasons.

I mean, there's no doubt that there were 5-6 players in Europe who had spectacular seasons, but BD should be given to the best. Don't tell me it's decided by a penalty shootout in Liverpool - PSG. That's why I don't care much about it.

The voting is irregular.

The whole video of his footage is fantastic, but I have said before that the goal at 1.42 is so so special. I watched that game live a few months ago and it's just the way he's going away from goal but just glides like a gazelle and effortlessly all in his stride curls the ball into the far corner.

It looks so easy and effortless when it's an extremely hard skill to bend the ball back when coming away from goal. The way he makes it look like the most natural thing in the world. There's plenty of examples but that goal is one of the best examples of how much of a genius this kid is.

I hope he keeps his feet on the ground, doesn't get burned out or injured. We could be witnessing a genius for the next 15 years.

Think he's gonna win it though. Probably clearer than people believe now if he goes on like this until the voting happens. Will probably win more dubious BDs in his career than not win ones he deserves. Much like Messi.

You got to give credit to Xavi for believing in him and playing him at such young age. His first full season under Xavi he surprised us all but went abit quiet for the first few months as he had to adapt physically.

But then I remember a game Betis away january 2024 the shark scored a hattrick and Lamine had a great game seemed like he adapted physically and never looked back since.

Yeah Vinicius and Mbappe are both great players, but they're more reliant on speed, space, running in straight lines than Lamine is.

Lamine is quick but doesn't need to be. The way he twists and turns, nutmegs people or turns them inside out in small areas is very key to his ability to then find and open up space for others. Or find a quick yard for a shot. You'll notice he's better than those two at long range shots, not only because he's better at ball striking, but also because he more often can find a gap or a half-yard from range due to his superior trickery and close control and his ability to instantly shift the ball.

And that is just talking about the dribbling and ball control. In terms of passing and vision, Lamine vs them two is another Messi vs Ronaldo situation.

What's great about Lamine is his build too. He's quite tall, but he looks slender. I hope he doesn't bulk up or or fill out too much or anything because he is just the right body type for the player is. He's still strong while being slim.

This lad is one of the main things keeping me invested in football, after I started to lose some love for the game in recent years.

Hot Take, but I would like him to keep wearing the 19 Number.
Maybe when he gets 20-21 years Old, he can finally take that Messi Number and truly become the successor.

Or maybe keep the 19 Number and make it the Yamal Number for the upcoming generations.

Football is nothing without a bit of Romantism.

The number is Lamine's once Ansu Fati is out of Barca. Also I believe there's a mandatory rule in La Liga for first team players to wear numbers from 1 to 25. In other words, there's no option to leave no. 10 unassigned for years until Lamine comes of age.

And let the number 10 rotten with bum like Fati or similiar?

Yamal deserves the number 10 next season, for a lot of reasons.
