Under any manager he’s the first name on the team sheet but Southgate was the last man to concede he deserved an England cap in the first place.

He’s been getting MOTM performances for England yet he’s not been close to his best yet for the national team. On his day he is unplayable, probably the best talent we’ve ever had at Villa.

He is still trying to get to full fitness after a three month lay off .

Plus you can disregard any selection decisions by Southgate who is an imbecile.

We just played a right back at LB even though we had two of the best LBs in Europe sat on the bench
