Along with Roberto Ayala he was the best defender of his generation. Definitely the most elegant defender though.

Bit hard playing Messi at the age he was when he started to encounter him though, no matter how good you are.

Actually it was Ronaldo (Brasil) didn't look like he had any problems with Messi in all games, infact the opposite

Yeah he never mentioned Messi, it was Ronaldo. It doesn't surprise me tbh, at that time Ronaldo was unplayable.
