Very true. The lad has to try and stand out to get Laporta to go for him and take him away from the misery of Merseyside

Off topic but something i continuously ponder when thinking about Barca: The amazing difference between Ramos's career trajectory and Pique's. They were compared to eachother a lot during their careers. Early on Pique was almost universally hailed as a superior CB to Ramos. When paired with Puyol or Mash, Pique was truly a superb CB. Amazing positioning, great tackling ability, and able to stop most world class ST's of the world.

However, as soon as some leading figure in the back 4 left, Pique turned into an undisciplined clown. Horrible positioning, ridiculous arguments with refs over clear fouls, and never reaching the Capita potential of someone like the great Puyol or a general like Mascherano.

Compare that to Ramos, who had somewhat of an opposite trajectory. Undisciplined clown earlier in his career. Paired with Pepe or Carvalho you just knew he would do some dirty tackle and get a yellow or red. From 2013/2014 on, Ramos completely changed. Became more mature, and really became a leader for RM. He embraced the leadership role, he embraced those tense moments in the CL, and overall became a much better CB.

^^ more of a blog post than anything, but wanted to share my opinion.

Yeah, I agree. between 09-12ish, really probably until 11, there was a genuine debate about which of the two was better. Since then Ramos has only gotten better even as Pique has declined. Today, there is no comparison whatsoever, Ramos is infinitely better not only as a player but as a presence, a captain... Pique really needed to have Puyol to slap him and tell him to shut the fuck up and get his shit together :/

Pique had one of the most dominant seasons for a CB ever in 14-15...the back 4 was an aging Alves (still WC obviously), Alba (not a defensive beast), and Masche (beast but aging. And not a natural CB).

We conceded 37 goals in 60 games that season.

He's been a clown since 16/17 but he's easily the 3rd best CB to play for Barca IMO. After Puyol and Koeman.

Ramos edges him out overall, of course, but Pique isn't some third rate bum who was carried.
