People have been saying Di Maria, Mascherano and Romero were better for years to try to make it seem like Messi was bad.

Not really, far from a campaign against Messi that you seem to see very often. Those claiming Di Maria maybe were too far off beat.
Defense is what took them as far as they got anyway.

It was a collective team effort.

I'll say this though: Argentina would win the WC or at least one Copa America trophy if Di Maria didn't get injured every time.

One of the most frustrating players ever, but their second best attacking threat nonetheless and someone Messi needed to take some attention off him.

Speaking of which, weird how Messi and Aguero doesnt have a great connection on the pitch, despite being bffs.
On paper it should have worked well to, Aguero being a number 9 who makes runs, Messi playing throughballs.

Higuain is/was better with his back to the goal, making the right runs and linking up with other players.

Aguero like Messi wanted too much of the ball at his feet.

That's why he alway started. Shame about his finishing

They tried, but he wanted to leave to retire.

The manager they should have retained was Tata Martino, but AFA had not paid him like 8-10 months worth of salary.

Say what you want about Tata at Barca, but he was a good NT Coach for Argentina.

Yeah, he had some health problems back then which led to his decision to retire, right?

Agreed about Tata. Don't think he was that bad at Barca either given circumstances.

Argentina 2014 wasn't a two-man team.
Once it got to the knock-outs, it was a real team effort.

Mascherano played for at least 2 players defensively and Messi the same offensively. Something I only saw once before, maybe we'll see something like it again in 2024??
I guess the rest of the team played as well as they could too, just as Italy -06 wasn't just Cannavaro and Argentina -86 wasn't just Maradona.

Full agree, in wc final the only dangerous man at the front was Messi so it was easy to focus defense on just one man. Imagine with di maria who was in his peak im sure germany wouldnt have won the final ! BY the way germany had one day more rest although they could relax in second half against brazil while argentnia also played 120 minutes against netherlands.

Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona — are refusing to let the project die. Doubling down in a letter of their own, they are threatening to pursue legal action against their former partners to extract millions of dollars in penalties if any teams follow through on plans to withdraw from the league. Super League is the future for them and there's no way back

My confidence in Laporta keeps going down

I assume it's more about paying fines than actually "believing" the project will happen.

Laporta is completely out of touch with the footballing landscape today. Blaming UEFA, pursuing the super league, looking to collect fines for withdrawing are all signs of a club that's in denial.
He needs to make positive changes like booting out Ter Stegen, amigos and even Messi. Hiring the right manager and trusting in youth.
His chest thumping, anthem bawling style will be OK in the short run but ultimately Barca fans want a team that is competitive enough to have a chance of winning Cl.

Rumours that Laporta had dinner with Messi, Pique, and Jordi Alba to discuss the future of the club (sic!), in which the name of Xavi was also mentioned

Hope it's not true,
if it is it shows Laporta is the wrong president
