Xavi Hernández

El Gato

Villarato!
I absolutely ADORE that this man is at the stage of his career where refs will feel far more trigger happy about booking him for chatting shite

You're welcome
There's just such a mental trauma at the club inflicted by past humiliations that a new manager would have to get these players right mentally first.

How many players on pitch are truly left that participated in those games though? Ter Stegen not to blame tonight. You'll probably end up with Alba and Busi again. But the fact that they need to be replaced has been long clear and for more reasons than just possible trauma.

It's not about the new players experiencing trauma. It's about the culture and attitude where it's ok to underachieve. The club really needs to fix it's attitude towards this competition. Do you think Perez would put up with this shit?

The main issue I have with Xavi is the lack of outlets provided to the player who holds the ball.
We can talk all we want about how passing CB is important and Araujo is bad at it, or how Pedri and Gavi are still kids and lack that playmaking ability...

BUT
Every pass has one at receiving end, and you will never be a good passer without having a good player to receive it and actually moving well enough to open passing lanes.

You look at our defense, and we are so dependent on passing to Busquets it is actually pathetic. There is no outlets from fullbacks or midfielders.
Only game we provided them with it was against Bayern, as Gavi and Pedri dropped deep and both had great game.

In attack, midfielders are so isolated, as wingers don't cut inside and stay wide, leaving out CF as sole option to pass and it is easy to neutralize a no9 if he is isolated.

The team is simply not built on a coherent way.

That is wild considering how Xavi always spoke about the importance of fullbacks and wingers players to support midfield (that was long before he joined Barca as a coach) and how he keeps talking about the positional ball.

Also ajnotkeith raises a good point about dealing with 3 atb, it is a kryptonite of our system and he has no answer to it.

How arrogant of Xavi to assume he was ready for the job after managing in Qatar. In take the ball, pass the ball documentary they mentioned that Xavi would be the next great manager after Cruyff and Pep. Couldn't be further from the truth.
He should have cut his teeth at a smaller club or paid his dues at Barca B.
Arrogant twat.

Let's stick with Xavi.

Only think I don't understand is why Dembele is not allowed to cut inside and give a low pass or shoot. Seems like Xavi ordered him to just spam crosses.

He does cut inside. He just isn't good at penetrating through defenders. He's good at getting to the goal line due to his speed/acceleration but that doesn't help him with slalom dribbles.

Ppl turned on xavi lmfao

Fickle fanbase

Hardly. Never wanted him in the first place and knew this shit would happen.
La liga is not enough. If we want to be taken seriously we have to be competitive in CL. Imagine if teams like Club Brugge, Marseille get past the group stage and we go to El. Lol. I don't think Laporta spent all that money to go to EL.
