Sergi Roberto wants to renew for 1 more year, but WITHOUT an optional year.
@tjuanmarti

The optional year which Bar?a is offering is based on his performances, but the player feels that condition isn’t fair.

Sergi Roberto’s agent and the player have rejected Bar?a’s first offer. Talks to continue. luis_F_Rojo

The club should not waste any time and energy and close the chapter on Sergi.

Disappointed that he wasn't developed more in midfielder role, rather coaches utilized his versatility after Dani Alves was let go.

If someone else played the way Sergi did recently, he'll be kicked out faster than that Austrian Demir kid. But he's third captain now, one down, two to go.

He never was good enough, but is a nice guy. Got paid enough for what he delivered along the years to say the least, he should NOT be upset about anything really.

Roberto hit his ceiling around 2017 but he was fine in a physical aspect and while he wasn't the fastest he wasn't slow at least.

Covid and a lot of muscle injuries basically fucked him up pretty good. Went from being a 12th-man player in his early-mid 20s to basically being unreliable in his prime years. Since 2018 he'll start off decent then trail off and get injured long term again and come back and take ages to find any sort of form and proceed to get injured and be out long term.

You can tell that those injuries basically took a lot from him.

Yeah I remember when there were comparisons with Joshua Kimmich back in 2016-2017ish, versatile players that started in midfield and went to right back for a time.

Before he was physically shot he was useful as a utility player, he obviously got cooked playing at RB against some of the better teams but that's to be expected. Against the lesser sides he was good enough.

Scoring the 6th goal against PSG grossly exaggerated his worth though and since 2019 he's basically been on an injury-> brief return -> relapse cycle.

For the record I think he played ok, at least he adds energy. He's also out of playing rhythm due to not playing for a while (since game vs Getafe). I think he can surprise a few people in that position, let's not forget he is originally supposed to be a box-to-box midfielder, and that inside midfielder position requires a lot of runs into space.
