Kovasic could have fit like a glove instead of either Modric or Kroos, making the transition much smoother

But there was no transition under Ancelotti either, so Kovacic would have been on the bench, or rotation option.
He would have been sold anyway due to lack of play, and Valverde would likely have been prefered over him as the next option.

Our right back options are much worse by comparison.
