It is really weird what has happened to it.
It was actually competing with Ballon as legit award, maybe was on its way to surpass it.
Then they do merge in one award that everyone cares, and once they separated again no one remember that this is actually the "official" award of football

So Salah, Messi and Lewa are the finalists for best player, but in the best 11 there is no Salah.
Gianluigi Donnarumma; David Alaba, Ruben Dias, Leonardo Bonucci; Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, Kevin De Bruyne; Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi.
They made a 3-3-4 formation, just so they can put Ronaldo in the team. If Messi had his PR team, he would have won 13 BdOrs.

True, even though the Ballon Dor is a bit of a joke like the rest of these award shows, its the big one, by far.

Yeah, that team is bullcrap...
No Benzema, no Salah, no Mbappe, and no Chiellini (who was even more isntrumental than Bonucci in Italy winning the Euros btw).
So the captains and coaches vote for top 3 players, and also vote for an XI? It doesn't make any sense that someone from top 3 doesn't make it. And especially that the best GK isn't in the best XI.
Surprised Alves and Marcelo didn't get in. The XI is usually a joke anyways.
