Actually the analysts said that he did a decent job slowing Messi down on that 3rd goal attack. He gained like 3-4 seconds, but the other Croatian defenders didn't get into the box fast enough.

The best defender during the tournament got skinned by 35yo dude. Should not feel bad. Legendary defenders had the same fate in the past.
He was on Messi's back every time a pass went his way. He did that good not letting him turn towards goal and create but Messi just passed back and the pass was made forward anyway. This created wholes in their defense.

Best defender of this tournament IMO. He was tasked to guard Messi at moments during the game, but one on one with the GOAT...

Have to agree, felt he was off all night and Messi skinning him for the 3rd goal was just the cherry on top of a shitcake.

Nonetheless, people forget he's just 20 and is already amongst the best defenders in this world cup. He's definitely generational.

Had a tough evening being tasked with keeping an eye on Messi. Rarely won the battles against him. But he seems like a humble and hardworking player, he'll definitely (rightly) earn a move to a top club next summer.
