Guys, relax. This signing is not to be compared to usual summer or even january transfers - it is in its utmost literal sense a 'last resort' buy.

Compare the transfer to the conditions under which it belongs. The player we can get has to be from either La Liga or the Segunda. He can only play in the remaining 14 league games (this season) and is bought as a temporary 'quickfix' for a sinking ship; when at sea, you cannot repair a carsized hole by welding and fortifying, you need a quick solution that might or might not work, but you have to compare the outcome of this transfer based on its extremely limited conditions.

Braithwaite scored against both Barca and Real Madrid in the same week for relegation-battling Leganes. That's pretty decent. He works a lot defensively, has pace and can bag a goal or two if we are lucky; that's it! That's our best case scenario. 2 goals from maybe 4-7 games from him.

Even Prince, who was shite, was a winter transfer/loan. Huge difference.

And yes, Abidal is hugely incompetent and the fact that Dortmund got Haaland for 20 mil. euros is laughably infuriating, but that does not dilute the fact that Braithwaite is brought in as a quick-fix for a sinking ship. His market value is realistically around 10-13 mil euros, so we have in a sense spent 5-8 mil euros for his services throughout the season. That's peanuts compared to the ultimate pair of sandals that is Coutinho and Dembélé (flip-flops).

Mental he’s costing 18m. Dortmund got Haaland for 20m, let that sink in.

People keep repeating Haaland did only cost 20M which is a false information. It was 45M. 20M for RBS, 15M for Raiola and 10M for Erling's father.

Yes, he will be worth the money, but there was not a single chance for Barcelona to sign him.

It's not false information. People just don't report agent and family fees.

Fair enough. Don’t really follow transfers or football outside of Barca. I just saw 20m somewhere.

Exactly. He is what he is a quick fix nothing else. In the summer we can focus on bringing in a true Suarez replacement.

As for halland im not even surprised BVB have an increadable talent for bringing in young talents and making them big almost unreal.

In what world we live in an agent's commission is bigger than the sale itself? I never heard such in any industry including sport. This can't be true!

Why should we relax? The only reason this is happening is because

1. Barcelona didn't care about securing a high profile winger in the summer, when it was abundantly clear that we couldn't SOLELY rely on Dembele because of his a) recurring injuries and b) His struggles to adapt.

2. Sold our only winger options in depth in the summer and the winter transfer window WHILE Dembele was still injured. They effectively decided to trust on one winger with an insane injury history while he was injured lol. Let me repeat that, they sold our only senior option in order to rely on a player who wasn't even training.

If this was Real Madrid they would have already rectified the 2017/2018 signings by either buying other wingers, selling Dembele and Coutinho or both. It proves that this board, not just Abidal, is ridiculously incompetent when it comes to squad building and management. We were desperate for a great winger after 2017/2018, and in 2019/2020 we're relying on a 17 year old and a fucking relegation candidate striker from Denmark.

Meanwhile, Madrid has 5 wingers. City has 3 great wingers. Liverpool has two world class wingers. Barcelona? A Frenchman in crutches and a 17 year old.

Only if he actually get's sold for that amount in the summer. Then it's still bad but at least not as horrible. If nobody buys him for 10+ mil or he decides to "fight for his spot" they just signed a mediocre player for 18M.

But i don't even think the signing in a vacuum is the makn point of criticism, it's more thag this panic buy perfectly highlights the sheer incompetence of the people in charge. Suarez was already out during the winter so they knew Barca doesn't have a 9 any longer. At the same time Dembele was still not match fit, has a known history of getting injured over and over again. So what did they do...sign/loan a 9? Or a winger? No, they sold Perez. What in itself was a decent deal and he wasn't exactly an important player but as the only transfer in attack that was questionable.

Then Dembele gets injured again (big suprise...), suddenly they realize what they have done, then they even luck out and he is out for long enough so they get the green light so in the end they will sign a mediocre player in mid february for way too much money, also hurting Leganes in the process but that's just a side note, and the only way to make this look good is hoping another club will buy him in the summer.

Overall that's just horrible. Doesn't even matter that it's peanuts compared to Coutinhos fee, it's still a bad look. Honestly just loaning any Boateng level striker would've probably been better, that guy would've at least been here since January instead of mid February, be available for CL games and we there was no "maybe someone will buy him" involved.

Mental from Leganes to sell both El-Nesyri and Braithwaite in the same window.

Well they don't have a choice :bartomeu:
