Sergio Reguilon

Wrote as much few posts back.

Club are keen on rewarding players for good service these days. Hardly any vet is being forced out, even if showing obvious decline.

30 with buyback in the range of 40-50 is a good deal. AS claim 35-40 within first 2 seasons which is even better. Spurs get a better LB than Rose who's on the outs and at odds with Jose, while also getting time to groom Sessegnon.

Rose doesnt even have a squad number and is long done at Spurs.

Davies will be the back up or could even play him in a back three. Be better off loaning Sessegnon out if get Regulion the worst thing for him is to be on the bench.

Possibly, indeed. Which forces another transfer. Not sure how likely that is.

In any case the deal is good for both sides.

Tottenham have a made an official bid to Real Madrid for Sergio Reguilon, as @David_Ornstein reported.
Manchester United are in talks by days with Real but *won't* accept to pay ?30m and *won't* accept any the "buy back clause" asked by the Spanish club.
...
Today afternoon, Tottenham made an official bid for ?30m to Real for Reguilon. #THFC have accepted also the "buy back clause" and the "pre-emption clause" [refused both by #MUFC], so Real Madrid can match any other bid in the future to bring back Reguilon
. 2️⃣ #MUFC #THFC

Absolute loser and small-club mentality from Spurs.
Accepting the valuation from a club is one thing, accepting 'buy back' or 'pre-emption' clauses shows you are a tiny tiny club, that bends over to the strong club.
You would expect something like that from Sevilla, Villareal or so, but not from Spurs
Perez finding the way again to fool other clubs, who are either too stupid or too losers.

As much as I hate Man UTD and Woodward, who doesn't know shit about football, they are showing they are not small club one can play with.
Same goes for Inter, who did not accept any clauses for Hakimi.

It's smart business.

They get a left back for at least 2 years while making money on the deal and addressing a short-term need. United don't.

Inter accepted the match high offer clause for Hakimi. Same one included in the Mariano to Lyon deal.

They gain a temporary solution, like getting someone on loan for 2 seasons.
So, they don't fix their problem long-term, and the player never essentially becomes property of their club.
They make only 10m for a business that would essentially be 'develop Reguillon for us for two seasons on the highest level, which we cannot do at the moment'.
It's really 'small club' mentality.
I would understand that coming from Lyon. Coming from Spurs who play EPL, and played CL final last year, seems pathetic

It is a good deal for Spurs as improves them and worst case scenario if leaves they make money which on accounts would be more than 10m if goes.

Not in slightest bit pathetic and makes sense for them as they are in business of results.

Doesn't matter if it's temporary (which even that isn't certain if Real decide Reguilon isn't worth the hassle, or a better player is on horizon). They're building for short term and people need to get off their high horse about it. They shouldn't care what happens in year 3, 4 or 5. Their players want to win NOW, not in 3-5 years. Kane has contract till 2024 by which time he'll be 31. His prime is now. Son is 28, contract till 2023. Moura 28. Virtually everyone of worth is in their prime. So making this particular deal makes sense for them when they really need immediate solutions in defense and it's structured in a way where the worst that happens is they'll get cash flow that they can reinvest. Or might not even have to if Sessegnon comes good.

It's not known how much they'll make if Real do decide to go back for him. Could be 20-25 too, most buybacks end up with the selling club having to make at least 50% investment to get their player back.

But imo Real is still the bigger winner in that deal. And with how big of a penny pincher Levy is , I don't think he would normally agree to that kind of deal.

So here is my hot take : I think the Reguillon and Bale will be package deal. Where Real "wins" in the Reguillon deal ( He gets to play and improve and if he is really good Real can snag him back for ~20 M) and Spurs "wins" in the Bale deal ( paying part of his wages for example).

Don't think Levy envisioned the deal until very recently, possibly when he got a scoop from agents after United dropped out. Most reports said Regui was set on United and Spurs was never even reported as an option until today IIRC

Bale is a whole another matter. We will see how he figures into their plans, but shouldn't be more than rotation player. + big risk with his injuries, though he might just prove to everyone that he's not as soft about his calves as he was in Madrid.

Fair enough , still think Bale has to be part of that deal if Levy were to accept the rumoured offer.

It's a good deal if you think/feel yourself as a smaller club compared to the one making the deal with.

Another way to make the point:

This kind of deals with buy-back clauses happen between big club and smaller club for a reason.
Smaller club accepts inferior position compared to the big club, and essentially accepts that if the player is of the potential he is thought to be he would inevitably be playing sooner or later at a level higher than theirs. In that sense they prefigure a future sale to a big club by including the clause.
The logic of the exchange goes somewhat like that: We (big club) give you a temporary solution that - if it works - would improve you since the higher level potential would be materialized, and you i) give us priority in your future sale and we don't have to go into bidding war with other top clubs or accept unreasonable valuations, ii) develop the player for us. Of course, if it does not work (if the player is not of the potential he is thought to be), no one loses again, as the clause is never activated and the player stays at the lower level.
The development of the player is crucial in that deal. The work that the smaller club does is to verify that actually X player is of the highest potential, and it accepts that kind of 'outsourcing' for the big club for the single reason that they are at a lower level.

I cannot think of the top of my head any other such deal between clubs of same or similar caliber, because these deals always happen between big club and smaller club.

Now, one can argue that Spurs is not same level with RM. Historically that might be true, but currently it's dubious.
Mainly because Spurs play in the strongest by miles league, and even though they regressed a lot the last year, they were top5-6 in Europe recently.
So, Spurs will be developing a player for Madrid for two seasons in the strongest and most competitive league for 10 or 20 millions.

Edit: Even if they want to win now, and I accept that there might be truth to that, still...
It shows small club mentality.
Would UTD, City, Liverpool, Bayern and others accept such deal when they are in desperate need to win? Never...

None of that matters and nobody cares about it bar a small contingent who just want something to get up and mighty about. Real sold Morata to Juve with buyback. Bayern had to pay for a James 2-year loan. Teams go for these deals if they fit circumstances. And strategically it makes every bit of sense of Spurs to do it.

There is no downside for Spurs in where they are at moment.

Good deal for them whatever way look at it.

Pathetic argument is that they would be better off without him and 10m in profit for the sake of arguing it is not how 'big club' should act.
