What about them? Are players today supposed to be terrified of these fools?

Decided to have the surgery and miss the WC, nice to have a CB with a brain. :umtiti:

Should use the time during the WC when he will be healthy enough to work with Xavi on positioning and ball playing skills. This injury could benefit us long term if we survive October without him.

Robinho is a joke obv, but Duncan Ferguson was reknown to be a tough guy. Burgled a couple of times and beat the funk out of the invaders, famously smashed up Samassi Abou in training and was a general nutter on the pitch that no one stood up to in the 90s. Not Vinny Jones nor that Man It's physcho.

There was a vid that went around back then of Dunc hitting the heavy bag and he knew how to throw a punch. Obv heavy bags don't fight back but he had heavy hands for a baller.

Kinda lucky that Inter also just lost Brozović for both games against us, he's just as important for them defensively (if not even more, considering they don't have as good a depth as we have), than Araujo is for us.

Youre what 13,14 years old? A huge reason players last longer these days is the refs protection. In the old days referees let players kick lumps out of each other. It's another reason why nowadays guys like Messi,CR7,Lewa and Haaland have such high scoring rates.R9 scored 34 in 37 from memory and that was considered phenomenal.
Players are faster, fitter and stronger today but are also less resilient.

You truly have no idea what you're talking about  just mindless blabber that contradicts itself. If players are stronger and fitter today then that makes them inherently better prepared to deal with injuries.

But hey refs allowed a lit bit more roughhousing back in the day so that totally made players from that era more resilient to ligament damage, sprains, and bone fractures  That's totally how things work buddy.

I think the biggest difference from times gone by and now is psychology of players. Not just sportsmen, but society as a whole has become increasingly pampered to protect from all kinds of "offenses". This has reflected on pro sports too. The same kind of thing that happened to NBA, where players are protected from physical struggle by liberally giving fouls for minor touches and nudges.
Current top players are in great physical shape, but mostly act like gentle ladies.

People should replay some clips from 1990's in Serie A and uK. Defenders were butchers... Nowdays you can't even give a nudge with a shoulder and they are rollin on the grass like hit by a missle...

Nobody is denying that. But people in this thread are literally attributing an injury involving a piece of bone getting detached from the thigh muscle to the "softness" of modern players  It's an asinine take that doesn't merit any serious consideration.

Not a doctor so don't know if surgery is the best solution for his injury (probably is) but it's a good news he won't put his longterm career in danger and force to play in the WC like Bumtiti.

How much compensation do we receive when a player is injured on international duty? Are their salaries paid in full?

They should be.

Around 20k for every day he's missing. In his case just about enough to cover his wages.

I read this too. But my understanding is that they will only start compensating us after 28 days. If so, what a silly rule.

Don't see what the fus is all about to admit (even for hard men like me) we've become pussies and embarrassment to our forefathers.

Look into the abyss boys. :carljung:
