I've heard that he wanted more money than Nike was willing to give and that he wanted to be the main face of Nike above CR and Mbapee. Then Puma came in with a really big offer that Neymar accepted.

Neymar's alleged assault was against a Nike employee rather than a stranger. Nike probably knew enough where they felt it was better to cut off ties with Neymar.

That said, there's no way Nike would drop Neymar of all people unless they had a very good reason to.

Incident happened in 2016. Was reported in 2018. Apparently the woman put pressure on Nike in 2019 to pursue the matter. After Neymar apparently refuses to cooperate, Nike drops him while he still had multiple years left on his contract. Timeline makes sense to me.
