Phil Foden

I actually think the hype is going a little bit overboard. He's getting the benefit of being seen as a midfielder when in reality he's playing as a wide forward. Today people are talking about him being in double figures for goals and assists, which is great, but Sancho who is the same age as him has been doing that for three seasons straight. You put Sancho in that City team and he'll get you 40+G/A every season. The real test for Foden will be when he has to actually learn his trade and be a competent #8, which surely has to be his destination, despite Pep not trusting him as much in that position so far.

Spot on. He is as much of a midfielder as guys like prime Gotze or Reus have been. I still think he will be an attacking player long term - that is where he has broken out and looks most impressive. His finishing and attacking presence are too good to be wasted deeper in midfield.

He's a beast, england may genuinely process the best midfielder in the world in a few years, not the lamps & Gerrard best midfielder, but the actually best midfielder in the game, the young man has serious game.

Him + that Dortmund kid could be problemsssss

England has a great group of young midfielders and attackers. They will be serious international contenders within this decade.

Sancho, Grealish, Mount, Foden, Saka, Bellingham, Rashford, Greenwood to name but a few. We have a habit of overhyping our players over the years but we currently got some of the best youngsters in Europe.

First time in a long time we've got players with some flair too.

This is literally the same way it usually sounds when you overhype your players :)

True but before we barely got out group stages of tournaments before packed with players that lacked flair. A lot of these young players are key players for their teams. Let alone the experienced players we've got like Kane,Walker etc too.

Just seems we've got the right mix of quality, age and experience for the first time in a long time.

Yeah I guess it's true it looks a bit different now!

We still overhype them, but the level of talent is definitely much improved compared to the generation that preceded them. Less than a decade ago we were starting games with Milner and Young on the wings and Carroll and Welbeck up front.

Nice goal, but that goal afterwards from Brighton though. Hints of Messi.

Joke all you want but this guy along with Mbappe are the real deal. They oozed with quality when introduced to the first team and continued to deliver consistently.. lets hope Pedri and Fati follow the same steps

I wasn't joking. That Brighton goal was great where the player feinted the players 3 times before shooting. Maybe more Robben in movement.

There are a couple of issues here.
British players tend to stagnate and dont deliver on all the hype.
The overall quality in the game is dogshite. Players nowadays just aren't that good. Look at Brazil. For years they churned out phenomenal talent and now nothing. Even the major European nations aren't showing any real talent. Look at Spain. Even their under achieving teams were ten times better than the current outfit.
Esports have taken over and quality will nosedive further.

I don't think that will happen with this bunch of young English talents. There hasn't been as many top skillful technically brilliant young players in one generation like there is now. England have never had 3 gazza like players in one generation before in foden grealish and Mount. And never had as many pacy skillful goalscoring wingers like sancho and saka. The likes of Spain,Argentina and Brazil really need to start producing or england could dominate for a while

Has he ever made a tackle ??

He has got decent skills and he s a threat with his fast , darting runs but I just see him prancing around avoiding any physical contact like there is a plague .

Also he rarely passes the ball more than ten metres so he can hardly be regarded an all round midfielder...
