21 - Frenkie de Jong

I understand, but nothing we can do, unfortunately.

-------------------------------

I agree with you. For me I would give Samper a season, he earned it. Samper and Busquets as CDM, Arthur and Rakitic as RCM, Alena and Coutinho as LCM and Roberto as a backup for all three spots. An excellent midfield with quality and potential. I would not mind great names such as Pjanić or Eriksen though.

I also would love FDJ, but not this season.
1. Valverde is not as bad as made out. Been doing a good job with young talents in Bilbao (where he had to). Meaning, I'm not afraid he'll ruin a talent. There are managers better at developing youth, but he's no Mourinho.
2. Samper's been dedicated as no one probably. Such a likable kid - but I doubt we can give him a season. Better trust Oriol from time to time. Problem with that concept is that you never know how it might turn out. Replacements need to be able to play against the best. Can they do it? The question neither of us can answer at the moment, imo. Another problem, not versatile enough.

We don't need de Jong this year.

According to Sport, Barca is back for him. Please do not crowd the midfield, it is either him or Rabiot.

Thoughts?

De Jong is DM though, isn't he? If he were signed he'd be Busquet's backup, not Rakitic's or Coutinho's like Rabiot would.

Edit: Seems he's pretty versatile, has played as a CB and a midfielder. However his natural role seems to be as a deep lying playmaker that helps out the two CBs in playing out from the back. Here's an article on his playstyle:

If De Jong were to come he wouldn't compete with Rabiot I believe.
