Barca 3–0 victory over Villarreal combined with Sevilla beating Real Madrid puts the Catalan team top of the table and three points ahead their rivals.

The 3–0 victory over Villarreal handed the Catalans three very huge points, allowing them to become the new leaders in the Spanish First Division. The win at Camp Nou, combined with Real Madrid's 3–2 defeat at the Sánchez Pizjuan in Sevilla later on Sunday evening broke what had been a first-place tie going into the weekend.

Though Real Madrid and Barça had been even on points at the top of the table, the Madrileños were technically ahead based on goal differential. But Real's first league defeat of the season on Sunday leaves them stuck on 24 points, while Barça's win and subsequent three points moves them into sole posession of first with 27.

Barça's current lead of three points over Real Madrid can be doubled to six with a triumph in the upcoming El Clásico, the next La Liga match for both teams, which is set for Saturday, 21 November at the Santiago Bernabéu in the Spanish capital. Kick off will be at 6.15pm CET.
FC Barcelona lead the league for the first time since falling at Celta Vigo back on match day five.

Top of the league but more importantly Barca should be on top of the game at bernaleo, a loss shouldn't happen even without a fully fit Messi.

Messi injured, Iniesta Injured, Rafinha injured, transfer ban, Munir the only attacking option off the bench, and Barca are still top? Amazing really. Honestly thought Real were going to be a good 6-8 points clear by November.

Not over yet mate. We did lose at Sevilla and Celta and there is fair chance we won't win points at Madrid (n)or Valencia.

I do agree that so far things panned out alright as Madrid had been losing points too, so we can be happy.

You can always count on Madrid fucking up just at the right moment. Year after year after year  I love it

What's great is had Madrid beaten Sevilla then us, we'd be in big danger of being too far gone if we dropped anymore after that. Being within a game of them would'a been huge, but we've exceeded that now. If we can just hold tough when we play them, we're in very good shape.

I will be very happy with a draw against Real Madrid so we are still 3 points before we play Valencia away. We need that buffer zone.

What's odd is that, for us, it's better to win on Bernabeu and to lose at Valencia than to draw on Bernabeu and win vs. Valencia. 3 points > 4 points in this case, as crazy as that sounds.

It's not. In the scenario you posted, it's better to draw with rm and win vs valencia. There's still a clasico to be played at home, and 4 points are always better than 3.
