Ehm, one small thing called playing best football.
Something Premfaces in Engerland or brainwashed Asians wouldn't recognize if it bit them in the ass.

Most of them fully recognise that Barca and Real are better by a good distance than EPL teams but you again make this mistake of thinking people support EPL as thinks it has best teams in world.

You love to make sweeping statements about how ignorant and brainwashed UK, Asian and US fans are towards football. Totally missing the point of why the EPL is most popular in world.

Well, they are. And EPL teams play shit football. It was even worse decades ago when it was full retard kick and run.
So yeah, they weren't supported for footballing reasons anywhere.

If you ask a hundred people in Scotland what is better SPL or La Liga 100 will laugh at you for asking the question and answer La Liga.

Ask them what they watch more of and it it will be SPL regardless of it being really shit quality because these are the teams they have more of a connection to and have grown up watching.

It is same with EPL it has had more exposure to areas like US and Asia and people have watched it for years.

Nothing to do with 'the brainwashed masses' thinking they are watching the cream of world football.

Does say 100m in that link but that is not the numbers being discussed previously by media.

Has always been they wanted 5m more to match Man Utd as highest deal in world... which is 40m more than current deal I think.
Nope, you're wrong. After the season ended, Barto wanted a 40m raise. That's why there's problems to renew it now.

Based on this one report? When lots of others said they wanted 70m?

Not saying its untrue but press been banding about different numbers all the time.

It's not one report. There's plenty. And md is this boards paper.

MD also reported in October that 70m a year deal had been signed. So they can be wrong also.

This report doesnt look great if they asked for that big a raise as it is absurd if true.

Oh right sorry I thought you meant their popularity began with Premier League.

As far as I know it did begin with the premier league and with Sky sports who played a huge part in commercialising the sport in England. United dominated the competition and became a global brand. I'd imagine the English language helped too. With respect to most foreign football fans I doubt they researched United's history before following them.

On a further note I don't think history is everything, if it was then how did Manchester City and Chelsea build a global base?

Back on topic when does the deal with Qatar end? Should we not wait until we finish the season to get a new deal? If we win the treble again can't we get a monster deal from someone?

The deal ends THIS year mate, by the end of the season Nike would have to start printing sponsor-free jerseys if this is not fixed by then.

We already got a trebble last season and with that in hand Bartomeu managed ... exactly ZERO deals so far.

You're right, may be back to back trebble will give him some leverage.

This is what a waste of space looks like > :bartomeu:

Nah.

People and China and US are not following them because of history. And they are certainly not following them because they play good football.
There are exceptions, of course but lack of knowledge combined with brainwashing is what yielded results.

Sorry Bojan, I don't know what you meant. People in China, elsewhere in Asia and the US etc. follow the EPL because of what exactly?

No, people in China, elsewhere in Asia and perhaps the US are not brainwashed. People follow the EPL for good reasons. The EPL might not be playing the type of beautiful football that we did under Guardiola, but neither are we. Like it or not, the EPL is the most competitive league in the world, period. Who would have thought that Leicester City would be the top the table in the EPL right now? Can you imagine Getafe being the top of the La Liga table and having a serious shot at the league title? The EPL does have a lot of history and there are a lot of fans following them because they had started following them starting in the 80's. There are pretty big followings of Manchester United here, despite their recent mediocre results. The same with Liverpool, Arsenal, to a lesser degree Chelsea, even Everton you mentioned (mostly because of a former Chinese NT footballer, Li Tie, who used to play for Everton, he was there when Rooney was playing for Everton). Among the top EPL clubs, I'd say City fans are among the smallest here. Money can't buy everything. Those fans didn't just become Manchester United fans and EPL fans because of Beckham.

Serie A clubs such as AC Milan and Inter, along with Juventus, Lazio still have big followings in China too, despite the fact that Serie A has almost sunken into oblivion. There are even still followers of Perugia that have relegated to Serie B.

We, on the other hand, have attracted many younger fans in recent years because of our success on the pitch. I must say some were attracted by purely Messi and perhaps even Neymar, some could be glory hunters that will jump ship if we stop producing trophies.

The bottom line is, people like what they like for whatever reason, there is no reason for us to ridicule them really. And the EPL is VERY, VERY influential, still, at least here, along with the Serie A clubs. But, lately we have gained a lot of momentum.

Real Madrid will renew with Adidas for a deal giving 140m (euros) a year to Real Madrid

that business acumen from FP :worthy:

Manchester United's deal with Adidas was 10-year, 78m (pounds, which is about 98m euros) per year

We need to force Nike to PAY UP!

Marketing and English language. No other reason why my fellow countryman started following EPL. How can it be so competitive when only 1 team dominated most of the last 20 years. It changed recently. EPL is easier to follow, even i didn't know about barca until i started watching football. But even before that i know about United and Liverpool. When i was in school my friends mostly talk about cricket but when it comes to football they used to talk about Liverpool and United. Why? because they are the ones who are constantly covered in the news not . Real fans started growing after the perez entrance and the galactico policy and the new fans because of ronaldo. For barca majority of my fellow cules are either because of ronaldinho or because of pep team. There are exceptions yes, but this is the case for most of them.

But it still is hard being a La liga fan, any pub i go they telecast EPL matches. Plus the timings of EPL matches are more suitable unless we play at 4 PM ET. You should hear the commentary on TV for la liga matches. So fucking horrible compared to EPL. No channel got the rights for copa del rey also. I am mainly talking about India not sure about other Asia countries.

EPL is no doubt the most followed league in Asia, next they follow barca and real. When i said barca and real it is absolutely true, people only follow barca or real not la liga. That needs to change, la liga needs to step up to increase its popularity. The new tv deal might help. But first thing the commentary quality has to increase man i just can't bear it. I mute it now a days.

Seriously, that is some amateurish negotiating skills. You don't generally ask for a 40M raise after accepting a deal. First rule you don't accept deals until the final stages, you keep the offer on the table. Then seconds see if you have another offer from any other sponsor which will back your 40M raise demand.. I doubt barto did any of this, he must have quickly accepted a deal before elections to show the voters that he got everything covered. Now after treble season he thought he could have got more and asked for a 40M raise without any other offer on the table. Clown.

If our board is not that incompetent we could at least get a deal similar to United Addidas deal.

Agreed. The EPL has history/tradition on its side but also it is simply being managed/marketed much better than the other leagues.
