Sergio Busquets

He is regressing further due to age, it's normal. In the setup xavi had selected I don't see current busi as a necessity.

He was alright yesterday but he looked worse on the ball than he normally does but that might be due to Xavi's turd tactics. Misplaced long balls and stuff.

They just put men around him all the time so he did not have as much space as usual ... not because he is a liability but because he is so vital to our play ... and it worked . Fulham did exactly the same against Thiago and Liverpool with the same result and Thiago is in his prime

This team beat us home and away last season

So if every team just put men around him, we will suffer. What is that if not a liability. Every average team knows that he is our weak link, everybody will target him, and we will suffer until he finally gets dropped. Willing to bet the next game without him, will be our best game in years. Xavi will lose his job because he is focusing the play around a walking corpse.

And for those thinking he had a good game, here are some ratings from football sites

Sergio Busquets - 4. Sent off injury time after a poor performance. Frenkie de Jong could be the one who takes advantage of his ban.

Sergio Busquets: 3/10. A poor start to the season for the Barcelona skipper, who was put under pressure by the visitors when on the ball. And while he did manage to help his team by dictating play at times, there were a lot of aspects of his game that looked off-colour. And it ended horribly for Busquets as he was given his marching orders following a second yellow card late in the game for an elbow on Radamel Falcao.

Sergio Busquets: 1. The less we speak about Busquets’ performance, the better. The captain was off his stride, failed to hit some run-of-the-mill passes, and was a defensive liability. Eventually, he was sent off in injury time.

Sergio Busquets - 2. It was a night to forget for the captain Sergio Busquets. He was weak defensively and rarely contributed anything in developing the attacks whatsoever. Moreover, he received a second yellow in the injury time and got himself shown out.

Whoscored also gave him the worst rating in the match.

Poor as usual.

Cant move to get on ball from defence often enough and hides/points elsewhere.

Follows ball and leaves defence completely exposed on break.

Teams are targetting him game after game and Xavi cant see it.

Barca could win next game by a few and first thing Xavi will do is bump gums about how much Busi is missed.

The 'unique skill set' is not what is made out to be either. His passing last season was terrible for his role in team compared to the past and looks like will be same again this season.

Pathetic part is team is built for him to get on ball and teams are not scared of that in slightest and are controlling where and when they let him get on it too often.

Anyone claiming that second yellow is soft is clueless. He knew exactly what was doing and fouled after his own fuck up when player heading into box.

You know it is bad, when teams like Rayo Vallecano are playing pressing on Camp Nou and we have problems with getting the ball to attack.

Busi and Gavi where bad yesterday, Pedri and De Jong decent.

Hope so we play best game in last 10 years against Sociedad so we play more games without BUsqets.

I agree. Busi is too slow against pretty much any team showing some sort of energy in pressing and some discipline. Busi is generally good when teams give him time to do his thing. If you can't cope with Rayo pressing you, then you should not play. He's far too immobile and static.

What he did best last night was directing other players not to pass to him because he did jack shit to move off marking and make himself available. This is the thing De Jong would no doubt do better than him, and it is a very important part of playing DM in possession.

Leaks have suggested that if the WC wasn't in Qatar Busi would already have gone to MLS and checked out of football.
How do we expect him to give his 100 percent if he is prepared to go to the MLS in a year? Lol.

We are relying on a 34 year old veteran who already wants to go to MLS and retire to be a focal point of a LaLiga and CL winning team. That is clearly stupid.

Frenkie deserves his system to be given a go, to see if he can be the solution if we focus on him and not Busquets.

Pretty sure that his pass completion stats over the last season are lowest in squad only ahead of Pedri.

It's not clear what he brings at this point.

He had a few good ball recoveries up high in their half, but apart from that his passing was below par for most of the game and he struggled with their intensity and was a defensive liability.

The way Xavi sets up his midfield doesn't suit him either so it's totally pointless to insist on starting him every game. It makes no sense. Would be much better to have a quicker guy as CDM to drop down deep constantly and bring the ball up the park to release it to one of the CMs who are higher up the pitch.

You just described Frenkie. The perfect role for him. Frenkie-Kessie-Pedri is our best bet in midfield, that is unless we get Bernardo. Hope Xavi tries it next game.

Have you seen Kessie play ?

Rubbish last night, nothing in the pre-seasons
