As is tradition just when there is a relatively meaningless set of Supercopa fixtures coming up for Jović to play in, he gets injured.

Our rebuild is a joke.
We have spent/wasted a good 400-500 millions in the last few years on new players, most of them dont even play, others are injuried.

We actually give you guys a run for the money when it comes to laughable signings.

It's real shame Barca and Real blew their money badly. I was hoping for another Messi Vs Ronaldo type of situation.

Both have spent a lot of money for not enough return.

250m odd for Griez and Coutinho vs 200m odd for Hazard and Jovic neither got nearly enough out of them.

Mendy been ok for Real but still dont see the hype too much on him and think looks limited going forward but admittedly not watched much of them in last month and Courtois been good value.

Of all the signings the past couple of seasons by either team Pedri/FDJ could end up being the best two but still long way to go to see how a lot of them turn out.

Think still early to pass judgemenet on Real's rebuild. Hazard has had terrible luck with injuries, doesn't warrant the money spent.

But on the other hand, lots of youngsters still waiting for a proper chance. Even Jovic could play way more as he's basically frozen out. Rodrygo, Vinicius. That's just attack.

In midfield Valverde and Martin.

Mendy been solid, but I'm still waiting for an impressive run. Militao hasn't played since october.

Some players are hard to replace. Namely Modric and Ramos. Zidane should keep trying out new options every now and then, be progressive with choices and experiment more. Sure thing there's gonna be a dip once Fede enters for Modric. But gotta give boy a chance to build some chemistry with the team. Add some confidence too. He has perma benched half the team on gonna take the easier path ground.

Wouldn't write off half the squad, especilly young part of it, without giving them proper chance. If some of these guys work out, there's a rebuild.

fede valverde is also super promising. hell of a signing, that. but man, hazard was a really poor investment. signed at 28 and now 30...and all i can remember about his madrid career is 1) his weight problems and all the memes about it and 2) his constant injuries.

it must piss Florentino off to no end since he is something of a shrewd business man (or at least is portrayed as such)

Eden is a marketing stunt. Mainly. That and there's enough of a reputation aspect on him which together with Zidane being here still makes us enough of an attraction for the next star player. No question the luck was absolutely terrible, but no fault of his own, shouldn't be hung out to dry over it by the people but will be regardless because most casuals are cunts. Bale been a pretentious prick in comparison so got less sympathy when suffering same fate. Kaka on the other hand left rather respected by most smart folks who knew he was damaged goods from starters and only got worse.

Handling of Jović, Militao, Odegaard, Odriozola and the others who are just shoved in behind the rest without any attempts at long-term incorporation and giving them just enough time for noticable progress from Zidane has been a huge letdown for fans and players. It's not like they're utter scrubs either and it's being made out as if they are.

Even those who are doing well i.e. Mendy, Fede, Rodrygo are all suffering from either not having a consistent position, partner next to/ahead of them or playing time. Or mixture of it all.

Most people in and out the club were happy to give Zidane a shot at this and there were natural limitations on how much we can move around in the market, but not enough progress has happened since his comeback. Defense being sorted out for 1 La Liga run was not enough to avoid doubts in the leadup to Gladbach game and will not be enough if more negative results occur in key fixtures. Man has himself to blame. The closeness he developed with his group which he refuses to rectify will be his own demise. Most of Nacho, Vazquez, CKM are fine as squad members but they're not the priority that Zidane still sees them as. And the Lyon baldfraud who will obviously get some credit for being a jack of all trades and improving stats to standard league striker level from 5-10 league goals a season is however a terrible fit, unathletic, unimpressive and uninspiring choice for a striker and leader for a group lacking finishers.

It's uncanny how same nepotism and misjudgement of handling the sporting transition return with a different coat of paint. 10-15 years ago RM was in the same spot dealing with Ronaldo, Carlos, Beckham, all these galacticos who couldn't give a fuck about showing up regularly, didn't take care of their health and had an enabling president and then you had captains like Raul and Guti who were counterproductive personalities in senior positions. Now this same enabling president has given a set of extensions to his 3-time CL winning squad that he avoids to tinker with like all hell and will just continue to pat himself on the back for the great job that he did assembling it. Captain and vice-captain are excellent, the latter not being a leader but still a great influence, but there is no real line of succession. 3rd captain just turned 33, currently with off-the-pitch courtroom problems which never stopped being an issue in the last 11 years and is an actual weasel. Varane, the 4th senior, plays well for France but garbage for Real without Ramos to watch his back and will still find it difficult to dispel the doubts if Ramos continues to play 100% of his minutes. There's little hope it'll change. So who's next? It's like looking into the void United were in when their 90s contingent retired and their version of our current French baldfraud was left as washed up old captain until eventually they ended up with fucking Ashley Young. That's where this is heading at this rate until our manager gives a genuine chance for growth to players who are there.

Corona can be used to shield some criticism, but a lot of it still falls justly on Perez and Zidane. It's yet another summer fans will be wishing for change, but none will come. The closest we'll get is the resolution of Ramos-Alaba situation + stop-gap. Other than that it looks like 2022 with Mbappe and Pochettino fulfilling their contract will be the time. And that's a problem since a lot of football will happen until then. And 10-20% of it will be played by the new kids as the manager refuses/is unable to do more with them than he does right now.

Don't think there will ever be another Messi-Ronaldo. Some will come close, but it'll take time to get there and certainly won't happen immediately after the era. Spain needs its trough in popularity to make the next peak happen. Germanic intensity will mark this decade rather than the cult of personality and finesse. Not this cross width heavy game that absolutely doesnt suit the strike force Real have. We have the same amount of headed shots as Huesca. Talk about tactical revolution..

In time things will be better. Most finesse heavy sides will have resurgence. At the moment it's Milan, Leicester, PSG and Atalantas of this world that will carry this mantle and they'll lead the fight vs the German pedestrian style spreading across Europe.

you bring up lots of interesting points wolfe. but i think youre rather pessimistic...i mean, you say its a situation similar to that of the late galactico era. but its not like that ended up in a United style situation as you suggest. since then you have won 4 CLs and several leagues.

Real is too attractive an option...even if you guys mismanage players therell always be many talented ones wanting a chance. i really dont think its that bad.
