Valued between €35m-€45m, Lyon is close to signing Rúben Dias. Benfica has decided to wait until after their UCL matchup with PAOK Thessaloniki to make a decision on OL's offer. The club wants to sign two CB's this window.

I need to ask something. Is it possible for the local Barca fans to write in Latin alphabet, instead of using the Catalan one? I have very hard time of reading posts where instead of "e" for example they are using combinations of Ao with other asteric marks attached.I believe even the Catalan key-board has the letter "E" or any other letters from the Latin alphabet. If this is English language forum, lets write in English. I also believe that there are other local forums in Barcelona where fans can write on that language (alphabet).
And last. It is not a wrong thread. It is meant for Ruben Dias from Benfica.

This is kind of a new problem now due to the recent changes in the forum. Those names were written correctly before

This guy is always good in FM. But with Mendes as his agent, any team will probably have to overpay.

Pep is a fraud. Spend 50m+ on defenders every summer still cant get nowhere in CL. 71m for a CB like Ruben Diaz????? Completely insane. In this Covid market. After he got Ake aswell, another CB for 45m!!

Fraud, fraud fraud. Got nothing on Klopp

City in the end paid 53m for Dias. This includes the sale of Otamendi to Benfica for 15M.

I have not watched him, but the valuation City accepted is insane..
Overpaying is a bad habit that City hierarchy have to shake off.

De LAurentis had a ridiculous valuation for Koulibaly also (90m for a 29yr old), but City could have worked better in identifying targets earlier.
Upamecano was available early in the summer for 40m. And he is like 7 yrs younger than Koulibaly with better prospects
What is their scouting department doing really?

we overthink and discuss what money bags city do in terms of transfers. but on the other hand we started the same defense last night that we used against liverpool and bayern.

wish we would splash big on a central defender...

I think a topclass CB was rather down on the list of priorities. I dont think our defense was at fault for Bayern or Liverpool either (not that they were good). We certainly lack a "highlight" defender in those games (like Ramos, Van Dijk), who can step up the defense all by himself, but a player like that is not on the market. Everything else is a sidestep.

I for one am positively surprised that we sold Semedo. I didnt expect any major changes in defence.

It's mostly team defense. Suarez/Messi not pressuring Bayern at all, the other players have to plug their empty spots. It's impossible to have good defense if two guys do nothing. Pressuring itself defends your team. We didn't press Bayern once.

My point: change Lenglet and Pique to any two defenseman in the world and we still suck vs Bayern. It was mess from upfront to defense.

It is true it is team effort, and it is true having Messi & Suarez affect defense massively
But it is also true that defenders affect defense, and having better defenders would have made ton of difference against any team

Pressing as a team will definitely help. I still don't think a pairing of pique and lenglet is good enough. An elite defender makes a massive difference, take van dijk for example. Liverpool pressed as a team before he came but they still conceded a lot of goals.

All of lfc's backline praise VVD's leadership and say how they have improved playing alongside him. Pique and lenglet are similar, they need a leader in defence. Pique had it with puyol, mascherano and Ramos. I don't think he's capable of being that himself.

Early days, but I noted that Lenglet looks fitter and physically stronger at the start of this season.

Anyways, that's 4 CBs in 4 seasons for Pep now- average spending of 50m pounds per signing. You would expect better though with Stones and Laporte both being just 26 years old.

Their signings don't look fantastic this season, but then we might be sitting here in a years time and Ruben Dias is the second coming of a prime Pique and Ferran Torres lighting up the wing.
