11 - Raphinha

This same retarded question.

If I gave you 3 names then what happens? Deco jumps on the fax machine and sends the offers?

I'll send it to him.

No, my point is that some people just scream sell sell sell without realizing this club probably won't sign a replacement. We'll just be worse off.

They would obviously have to sign a replacement.

If for example he left for the rumoured 80m clause that creates a lot of FFP space if back to 1:1.

Could sign likes of Diomande for 80m and still have room left over to spend elsewhere.

If they dont sell this summer. Is it next summer? Or renew him past 31? Is that wise for a player whos engine is one of biggest assets.

Diomande looks interesting, but I have doubts about Leipzig only selling him for 80m. I think they'll probably demand closer to what Wirtz went for.

That's a though question that the club has to get right. Someone like Raphinha will age badly the second he can't play with this intensity anymore, maybe it's already happening this season, we'll see if he'll bounce back to form. On the other hand if we sell him now we would probably buy someone worse.

The real answer to this question is that we'll extend his contract for crazy money until he's 35 because of his Deco connection and this thread will go back to Cardiophinha when the decline happens.

So what's the point of debating if 'this club probably won't sign a replacement'?

There are players on the market. Atletico signed Lookman on the cheap. Not a long therm option, but he's better than Raphinha when it comes to technical skill.

Not a single available player, especially with bums like Wirtz and Simons going for 100m+60m respectively, can match Raphinha's output and off-the-ball hustle in both attack and defense/pressing. Selling him would be a massive-massive mistake.

Raph doesn't have a lot of mileage on his legs due to not having played in CL or other European competitions often before coming to Barca. He is an absolute professional and if lucky with injuries, I can see him being influential even at 34.

Most of the Barca attackers have very good output under Flick.

Even Roony has 6 goals/assists in 600 odd minutes.

He wouldnt be as difficult to replace as made out there and the flip side of it is if Barca signed a player that can dribble LW it makes it harder for teams to double up on Yamal and could lead to Yamal having more freedom to get central more often.

Wouldnt lose much from the penalties scored nor assists from set pieces as others take that over.

Guessing he could be good at 34 is a dangerous game if it means turning down a big fee in next few years and renewing him on type of wages it would probably take to do it.

Would be a good sale if we can attract players such as the ones signed by Bayern, Olise, Diaz. Preferably someone younger than Diaz.

He will not be an easy player to replace. It can be done with good scouting and money, but finding these players is difficult, they don't exactly grow on trees and they will have plenty of suitors from rich teams, much like Raphinha did back in 2022. Arsenal and Chelsea were tied to him at the time IIRC.

You absolutely never sell him to play Rashford. You sell him to get someone as good, with maybe potential to be better, for similar money and much younger.

Much bigger fish to fry than worrying about replacing him for 2 years ahead.

Most likely true. You'd be trading a player who is proven at the top, and was a contender for BD for a luke-warm maybe. It's not like you sell Raphinha and sign Doue with the money.

And I'd prefer a player in his prime instead of him, 25-26 and with similar qualities with Raphinha. Not someone you spend 3-4 years with, building him up with patience.

Doubt the club is gonna bite the bullet considering we have many other positions in more dire situation.

If we will replace him we need a player with similar workrate, because he is crucial to the high pressing and high line style we employ. His workrate helps to keep us high up the pitch.

We can improve on him by adding a player with more takeon ability. But whoever that guy is needs to work his ass off like Raphinha.

I also think he would benefit from a better striker alongside him, and Yamal would benefit from it also much more. Lewandowski, at this point, is too old to play the role and Ferran should ideally be our backup.

If we had a striker like Osimhen or Isak who also had some aerial quality along with the ability to run the channels these wingers would be picking up many more assists.

Its a stretch to call Raphinha a 'winger'.

He is more or less a second striker than a winger and on majority of pens.. which is why his expected goals is so much higher than the rest.
