10 - Lamine Yamal

Was kept in check by Hall. A recurring theme for him in big games this season.
I mean, he has 2 CBs (1 turned RB) as attacking support on the right side and 2 other forwards who are totally useless.

This will continue to be a theme the longer 1. Raphinha and Lewa suck dick. 2. he doesn't have a natural RB supporting him.

He was not so good when he had the ball

But he got it too little. At one point I just forgot he is on the pitch which is not a good thing. We had very little control and Lewa & Raphinha were losing every single ball that came to them so we didn't do anything in attack

At the end that penalty was very well taken and in such circumstances it was not easy at all. He did well there

His bad performances almost exclusively coincide with team's collective shit performances. It is an interesting pattern. Almost like when he is the only one in attack who shows up and his teammates are mentally absent, and don't even pass their best player the ball.. there is little he can do

The reason he was dominated by Hall was purely physical. Hall was stronger and faster than him, it's really that simple. He couldn't take it past him, he couldn't beat him 1v1.

This is not the first time we've seen this happen to Lamine because, frankly, he's not particularly fast and he's got a tiny frame. But this is where he needs IMO to offer something different; just waiting on the wide right so he can pretend to dribble his dominant fullback and then pass back is too static. I'd like to see him go elsewhere and make runs in behind or get involved deeper.

Also, his workrate without the ball was SHIT on many occasions.

He was absolutely pocketed by Adama Boiro too until that unusual, costly mistake by him to leave him wide open for the goal. Yamal hasn't looked so good these last two matches.

Every bad game he just stands on the wing waiting with 1 or 2 players hounding. Even worse we cannot hold the ball against any good teams. They press high or in the middle and we turn into Stoke City

They gave him to shoot penalty so he doesn't cry.
Other than that another shit display in big match.
I'm not sure that 18yo kid is the one who is crying here.

But yeah it's weird that we have 18yo kid taking penalties for us. Maybe it works in the long run if Lamine learns early on into his career how to deal with pressure in penalties when the stakes are high. But it's crazy amount of extra pressure for him when he is already having to deal with tons of extra pressure from the media and fans while he is barely an adult. Hopefully he can handle it.

And no, I highly doubt Lamine is forcing our veteran players to give him the ball so he can pad his stats. Seems like our veterans just aren't confident with themselves and aren't willing to take the necessary role they should so they give it to the one guy who isn't scared to take a role and deliver.

Bad game from him sure like from everyone in our squad barring the backline and Joan. But just like so many times before you already know he will deliver soon big time when it's needed. We have been here before where he plays below his level for some games and then has few brilliant games where he reminds us why he is so highly touted.
