Football changed. We don't play by the same rules anymore, because we compete with literally state sponsored white-washing tools, or billionaire money-laundering toys calling themselves clubs with unlimited financial strength.
We can't expect to win the European competition anymore. We can surely do it, because you can always be lucky in a season, have a great day or form when needed, same as many smaller and weaker clubs showed in cups through out the history.
But to expect something like you have to do it? No, this time has passed. It's like to expect a minivan winning a race against a sportscar. You can do it, if the sportscar breaks down, or its driver is some utter fool who can't manage the car, while you drive your minivan in the red engine speed numbers, but that will occur very rarely.
