10 - Lamine Yamal

There's no shite about Yamal. I consider him a very talented player who has to prove himself. Some already come up with excuses to protect him.

Oh, he's not a scorer. What? He should be a scorer, and it's an absolute must in his future development to be that player. Since when is a supposedly elite winger not a scorer?
Prove himself?

A player who won Euros as one of best players

Runner-up for ballon d'or

Had one of best ever CL performances over two legs

He has a lot more to win and achieve. But let's not act like Yamal is some kid with talent who hasn't done anything yet. He can retire right now and very likely he would go down as legend of the game, just for the legacy he already has

Lol, Messi talks. First let's see him decide a CL final like Doue did. Or score multiple goals in multiple semis and finals like Vinicius did. There's levels to this. He has players in his generation that he has to reach and compete with. Who cares about age really? Some players were great as teenagers and then disappeared later on. Wait and see.

All this, if he does this at 17-18, at 27 he's gonna be absolutely insane. It does not work like that at all most of the time.
Doue didn't decide anything by himself in that UCL final, just happened to play a good game like everyone else from PSG against Inter who managed to shit the bed at the worst possible time.

Lamine will not peak at 17 and he won't suddenly fall from grace unless there is a major career threatening injury to him. Ridiculous to even suggest something like that.

There is a reason why people who are much more knowledgeable than us when it comes to football hold him in such a high regard already. This happens in Barca and Spain. Every coach Lamine plays against has to put special tactics just for him.

He is still a player in child's body. Patience is a virtue here. You will have to wait few years until you can expect him to be carrying teams like other greats before him. Time to start practicing that waiting game.

So was the Spain Euro triumph. A number of players performed brilliantly as a unit but somehow Yamal is getting all the credit for that here. Spain were playing most teams off the park as a collective outfit. Wasn't a one man show whatsoever.

horrible comparison. And also wrong again.

Nico was hailed player of tournament by many pundits even though he was nothing special.

People started realizing late into tournament that Lamine was outfield player with biggest impact because he didn’t score that much(1 goal)

and aside from that dumbest comparison to compare doues ghosting in the final game to how important lamine was across the tournament.

Wasn't one man show but Yamal came clutch multiple times

The equalizer out of nowhere vs France when team was behind and in a difficult position. Who knows when and how Spain would come back if not for that banger

Great assist vs England to take the lead

Asisst vs Germany to take the lead

The amount of publicity this youngster gets is absurd. The man has won pretty much nothing yet, you'd think he's a multiple ballon d'Or and CL winner. Who cares...

He literally scored one great goal for us in a very big game vs Inter and now all of a sudden he can't fart without making headlines. In the grand scheme of things he is a nobody. All of our players barely scraped the surface of what it means to be elite. Yet people act as if they are big shots.

Yamal, Raphinha, Pedri, not to mention likes of Balde, Cubarsi etc. Head down, and work hard. Whatever you think you have done so far, it's nothing compared to what our past legends achieved. That's it. Every new player does something great, and after 6 months he wants to be seen as new Ronaldinho or new Messi. What the fuck...
He's won basically nothing....

La Liga
Supercopa de Espana
Copa Del Rey
Euro 2024

All at 17 years old...that's quite a lot of winning

People can base it on what they see with their eyes as well, it is obvious he is an incredible player. Nobody is saying he's Ronaldinho or Messi yet, but he is the star player of this team, and that's already a big title.

Also, a lot of his major weaknesses can be fixed. It is mostly mental/tactical stuff that is limiting him from being a greater goalscorer, but with some targeted work he can improve very quickly.

It is normal to have peaks and troughs as a developing player, it is not linear. He had a big breakout season, now the pressure is high, opponents prepare for him, he has greater expectations, and that can cause a dip of form.

The only player who achieved more than Yamal at the age of 18 is Pele.

Even Messi at that age hasn't achieved as much.
That's not because he is THAT GOOD but because football has changed.

In Messi's teen years, 433 was just emerging.
90% of teams played 442 with older, experienced strikers.
Football was slower, AC Milan was rulling the world with 35 year old defenders and midfielders.
Only in 2008' Pep introduced a faster 433 with triangles and high pressing.
With an introduction of high pressing, football moved from 33 year old strikers towards teens and players in their 20s.
Further, in 433, the biggest importance is on Lw and Rw positions who need pace, need to dribble, create, score and press.
And lately, all top teams started to play Lws and Rws aged 17-22.
Not because of Yamal but because tactics and requirements have changed.

In short: Yamal doesn't play more than Messi aged 18 because he is better but because modern football shifted towards very, very young Lws, Rws and Ams.

Also, don't expect these new kids to play till the age of 35 or 38.
They will have more injuries due to playing from the age of 16.
They will have a burnout earlier.
And they won't develop mentally.
When Messi was 18, he was slowely being introduced into a team as a sub by Rijkaard instead of Guily.
Cr7 at the same age was getting last 20-25 minutes per match and Alex Ferguson was constantly yelling at him and commenting: "you can't give too much playing time to these kids in order to develop them mentally."

On the other hand, today we have Lws who are superstars and starters from the age of 16.
He will be mentally finished sooner than Neymar and Adriano.
