Yeah, his reputation as a defensive leader lasted about 6 months in the peak of Lucho days. After that, he was pedestrian in CL and in the frame of many cheaply conceded goals that led to CL shameful losses.

He was never a real leader. The leaders were Puyol and Masche. After both disappeared from our defense, and Umtiti joined in, it was tragicomical at times even though Pique was supposedly in his prime age still. You're not supposed to be bad at 29-32 years of age as a CB.

Masch was always the leader in that defence and was constantly sweeping up.

Masch was the better of the two at CB in that time by a fair bit and he was a short midfielder.

He wasn't a pedestrian CB under Pep, had his defensive influence as much as Carles Puyol.

But post-Pep, Pique was gone. The Bayern 0-7 aggregate loss in 2013 destroyed his whole aura for me. I think he also lost focus with side businesses. 2014/15 season was due to MSN and Rakitic stepping in for departuring Xavi. Glory has little to do with Pique being dominant CB or whatever that season or after.

At least you guys can stop lying to yourself that this kid is any good. Bro is nothing more than an average player. Hasn't improved one bit since his debut, if anything he's gotten worse

Think he actually wasn't that bad while he was on the pitch. Naturally when we concede 4 in a half everybody will be blamed but it was more about our defensive structure than the individuals this time. Kounde prevented 2 goals I think. Eric was okay. Balde didn't fuck up anything either. Only Joan did

Flick tax. They're more preoccupied with the offside track than actual defending ability.

The academy players play great when they first break through and then they fizzle out. It's because everything had led to them breaking through. The grind the hype the whole academy training is geared towards making it easy. They slot in they play out of their minds. Then after a few months the new car smell fades and they settle in and realize it's a marathon not a sprint. Their bodies are not prepared. Their mentality is based on making it not sustainability.

Cubarsi is having a good season.

Is getting stronger and more aggressive.

The issue is he like many others is left exposed and it is whacky races as to who to try and stop defensively.

Flicks defending is about squeeze pitch, press like fuck to win ball back.

If that fails and the opposition get past the press and hit the space out wide or through middle it is more or left to defence/midfield to try and stop nearest threat first and a scramble.

There is no shape/structure beyond that narrow/high line it is every man for themselves and try to make the correct decision to put out the nearest fire.

Feel that Cubarsi is looking fitter and stronger these last months. Seems to be going through a physical development spurt (finally), and the performances haven't been as bad as many of you on here suggest.

Expect to see him have a very good end of season and massive 26/27, if he stays injury free.
