pique at peak and still around 2012 was clearly faster than Cubarsi. He didn’t fall behind Ramos during the Spain domination.
Pique would fall between araujo and cubarsi pace wise.

Pique didnt have pace and wouldnt put him as quicker than Cubarsi.
Barca usually used him as the CB to go and engage the CF midfielder if teams breaking and others would cover him.
Ramos was quicker.

My memory so well I know the comments and sentiments around him. In 2013/2014 he started showing signs of losing some pace(Ramos started clearly looking as the faster defender). Then under Valverde was already even slower but still had strong defending season cause focus was there(then was put close to ramos again cause of intelligence).Cubarsi is around that version of Pique pacewise.

Pique was always slow.
He didnt regress physically at 26/27 either it just became more noticeable and more of an issue once Xavi declined and the best midfield ever was no more.
Less of the ball was being kept in front of him, Abidal and Puyol were gone and he was exposed to more 1v1 defending.

Cubarsi's problem is not speed that much imo. It's physical duels and errors of positioning, stupid clearances, duels he should compete hard in and he ends up on the grass instead while the opponent ends up with the ball.
His speed is average, he is not that slow. Aerial game is absolutely crap though. Pique was far better at this in his younger days.

I'd really like Van de Ven, would be ideal signing for us... but it ain't gonna happen for less than 80m we don't have. Obviously the defense can be improved a bit even with much cheaper signings if funds don't allow for big spending on a very highly rated CB of a great age.

Pique was never a top top CB after the Xavi, Iniesta. Busquets period ended.
Was fucking awful in a lot of the bad defeats Barca suffered in CL etc and not much better for Spain after that either.
Cubarsi will be a better defender than Pique was but wont ever play in as good a team.

I very much doubt that. But I agree Pique built a great career on the back of some truly huge players with whom he shared a generation with. He was top 3-4 most replaceable players in every big side he played in, with only 1-2 players who were more expendable than him.

He was class in that side as he was a decent defender and one of best in world on ball and Barca dominated the ball as Pep so far ahead of the curve.
Before that at Man Utd and after that with Barca and Spain Pique had a ton of garbage big games when asked to defend more.
