He was not scapegoated he was absolutely shit and single handedly cost us games.

Even worse, he stopped giving it his all and focused on other businesses and undermined coach. Put himself ahead of the club.

You said 'he was scapegoated especially at the end' I respond no he wasn't he was shit and you respond with judge him by his entire career?

Yes, Cubarsi has his flaws. And currently isn't good enough to compete against top teams.

But tellme which properly running/top club/decently rich club would have a 18 year old playing as their main CB? That too in a CB pair who's profile currently doest match what the backline demands. Faster, Stronger & taller/aerial threat.

That being said, guys going to be a beast at 25yrs old.
He needs to get bulkier and improve his physicality.

Won't improve if he keeps making the same mistakes. His 1 on 1 defending leaves a lot to be desired when he's facing attackers. Let's them take shots/get crosses in way too easily. Doesn't get close enough when he needs to. Etc

He needs a Puyol-esque defender next to him or it's not gonna work. He can't carry the defence line by himself.

It's always funny how much shit defenders get when they make mistakes but no one gives a fuck when strikers miss few clear scoring chances and we lose by one goal.

You can make a mistake but when you keep making the same mistakes over and over again it becomes an issue.
You think Ferran doesn't get criticism for missing goals constantly?

We are talking about Pique here, not Maldini, Baresi or even Rio Ferdinand. Pique was an above average defender with massive concentration and discipline issues at a time when Barca was the only high pressing team in Europe and the Barca centerbacks had very little to do outside of playing it out of the back. Pep had to put a private detective on his ass to watch over his sleeping habits, he admitted to flying to Dubai with Neymar to party in the middle of the season, he cheated on the mother of his children, he got criticized for many years that he is not the same without Puyol.

People hate Stegen to this day for Anfield but look at Pique's behaviour in every single goal as 31 year old CB in his absolute prime years.


1.75 m Wijnaldum towering over 1.94 cm Pique who doesn't even bother to jump and is only ballwatching for the 3-0 sums up his entire personality.

Pique is same tier as Victor Valdes. Good for Barca's needs, some top moments, many bad moments and would definitely not make any top 10 list for his position in his generation. Barca's Boateng basically.

I would be disappointed if Cubarsi doesn't reach at least that level.

Issue is that pique had those traits that you can’t really work on. He had pace during peak and height(which in modern football I think does seem to be more important than it was decade ago). Anyhoo, forget about height then, but Cubarsi could still do with a bit more pace. Also strength, but he can work on that.

But in terms of mentality? Yeah, Cubarsi is probably already ahead of Pique.

A lot will come down on how intelligent he will be on pitch

Pique didnt have pace and was fairly slow off the mark he needed likes of Masch and Puyol to cover for him a lot.

Pique was one of the best defenders in his generation, he had concentration lapses but that can be said about most of the great defenders, except of the few goated.

He was also a tower, who helped massively in aerial challenges and the differences with him on or off the pitch was big on that regard. Nitpicking his mistakes don't change that fact.

We would be lucky if Cubarsi reached the heights of Pique. That would be amazing
