When I think of Total attacking footballer/complete attacker, they hit 9/10 or 10/10 in all the attacking attributes. Otherwise, all attacking players are total footballer.
When you compare someone like Messi, Messi would be like
- Score: 10/10
- Assist: 10/10
- Dribble: 10/10
- Create: 10/10
Mbappe would be something like
- Score: 10/10
- Assist: 6/10
- Dribble: 8.5/10
- Create: 6/10

Yes and before people say "well nobody is like Messi" it really isn't just Messi who's good at all phases of attack
To be a complete forward, total footballer you need to be WC at all of these. Mbappe's chance creation is not WC
Yamal lacks goalscoring but he is improving there as well and most of the easy finishes he will get done now

Total Footballers or attackers don't need to be elite at everything.
Generally you need to be a good player who can play in a number of positions, has a wide array of attributes and is good technically and has high Football intelligence.
Reece James is a total Footballer for instance. Bossing games as a CM despite being an RB.
Seedorf was a total Footballer.

Yamal isn't close to a total Footballer lmao. Don't even try!
He can only play one position and his ball striking and finishing ability is pretty average.
You can't single out Mbappe's creativity but give Yamal's shooting a pass. Hypocrisy.
Atleast Mbappe has successfully played everywhere across the frontline and delivered consistently.

Calma. It's coming. WHEN Yamal becomes a great finisher he will be a total footballer.
But Mbappe will NEVER be able to thread a through ball like Yamal already can, and hence will NEVER be a total footballer.
How can you be a total footballer when you can't do one of the 3 main metrics of an attacking footballer ?? What next? Trent is a total footballer when he can't even defend?

Mbappe can pass, create chances too and has a pretty good final ball. He gets lots of assists.
Yamal can't dribble past 3 or 4 players and score like Messi, Cristiano and Mbappe did/do. Yamal's lack of pace means that he can only dribble past 1 or 2 and score. You won't see him making those crazy solo runs beating everybody and scoring. Messi was the king of that.

That's a ridiculously low bar. Mark Noble, James Milner and a thousand other players can pass and create chances, doesn't mean they should be viewed as having completed the ' passing ' metric of a total footballer.
Lamine can thread a ball like Leo or Ney or Kaka or Zidane did. Mbappe simply can't come anywhere close to that ability. He's as basic a passer of a football you will see.
If Lamine sorts out his finishing the Lamine Vs Mbappe debate will look as ludicrous as the Messi Vs Ronaldo debate always did.

Mbappe already has 170 career assists BTW. His final ball is pretty damn good.

The only thing true here is that he doesn't score such goals
But he can dribble past 3 or 4 or more players and has done it many times. It's just that he passes the ball in such situations rather than shoot because his goalscoring as mentioned needs improvement
Last game we had an example of this when he dribbled past several players and gave the ball to Rapha in good position. And last season when he dribbled through basically entire Alaves lineup
Also his pace has significantly improved since he broke out and there is no reason to believe it won't continue. This season already he looks much more rapid than at beginning of last season. We often forget he is 18, he is a freak of nature, his pace and physicality manhandling grown up men week in week out is nothing short of madness

Hermano, we see football differently. Yamal can dribble past 3 or 4 and has done it regularly and more often than Mbappe recently. He just didn't have the finish on the end of the run. It will come.
Number of career assists is an extremely base way of looking at passing ability, especially for a striker. A lot of strikers get their assists from rebounds, square balls, crosses, lay offs. Just like Ronaldo did, though even Ronaldo is a far better passer than Mbappe.
None of those qualities display anything more than a basic level of passing. I've watched Mbappe plenty. He can't thread a through ball which is the main element of ELITE passing ability. That is a bona fida fact.

The issue is you guys are equating Yamal to Messi just because he plays for Barca and wears 10.
Young Messi used to dribble crowds and beat 3 or 4 players with ease. Messi had ridiculous acceleration and used to fly past players. He was also a natural goalscorer. Even Cristiano used to comfortably beat multiple players when young.
The reality is that Yamal's pace restricts him from doing these things. So every time Yamal beats a player he looks to release the ball instead of continuing the run like Messi would.
This is why his profile and playing style is completely different to that of Messi.
Messi was absolutely unstoppable 1v1. Yamal has already been comprehensively nullified by Nuno, Cucu and Carreras so far.
He's a brilliant talent but these Messi comparisons are baseless. And I'm far from being a Messi fan.
